Maybe they are waiting until the lottery, but that seems silly.

Maybe, I've theorized that winning could generate enough excitement to eliminate the need of a fall guy, but would hiring Dumars or even Schlenk really change ticket sales much? Maybe the plan is to keep Demps but give more direction like they supposedly did with the draft pick at the deadline.

Whoever is here I just hope they get on the same page so we don't repeat Asik/Ajinca. Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but I really think Ryno losing 5 minutes a game post ASB was a signal to management. And if it wasn't a signal then he honestly did lose minutes to seemingly lesser, and much cheaper players like Cunningham/Ajinca/Perk and the GM should consider that when he decides on Ryno.

Jeff Bower was fired in July. There's no set date. The NBA is a much different animal than the NFL. If anything I would guess at this point IF it happens (which does seem doubtful), it would be right after the draft combine but before the lottery.

Honestly, in my opinion:

Jeff Bower + Tom Benson >> Dell Derps + Tom Benson

Jesus, could you imagine a Derps/Shinn pairing?

Alvin Gentry will join Dell Demps to help him scout players during the NBA Draft combine in Chicago for the New Orleans Pelicans.

''I don't think it ever shuts off whatsoever,'' Gentry said about his offseason duties. ''I'm leaving here in the morning at 5 on a flight to Chicago to go to pre-draft camp. Obviously we're very disappointed with the season that we had last year.''

Demps is continuing to conduct his business as usual even though the Pelicans haven't confirmed his return for next season.

''We're going to look at all kind of angles in the draft,'' Gentry said. ''It's always that thing about we're going to take the best player and in this case we'll probably look at situations whoever we feel is the best player that's who we will take.''

From John Reid. FYI it is well known that Demps and Reid are buddies.

I think the dream is dead brah. Verrier makes a good point.

At this point, I wouldn't be surprised if Pelicans never formally address Demps' status. Doing so requires acknowledging doubts existed.

The information vacuum isn't the team's uncertainty about Demps, it's the team not seeing the question as worthy of a reply.

I agree.

I had this thought yesterday. They can't even have any kind of presser with Demps now because it would look bad since they postponed it.

It will be business as usual.

I won't be updating anymore unless something happens...

Until next offseason starts up.

It's still strange that the PR department through twitter has had mulitple releases about Gentry even just him catching a plane to the combine and nothing about Dell. They didn't even link the mother's day article about his wife's battle with cancer and loss of her mom.

Not surprising. This has been what the office has been planning all along. I hope they land a top 3 pick.

A source tells me that there are plans to tweak some things for the Pelicans for next season.

@1DarrenHoward I dunno. Was just told changes are coming. I didn’t press the issue. Pels aren’t my beat

What does it mean? Medical/Training staff? Joe being added to the mix? Nofox said he had heard Dumars was helping with scouting.

Expect an extra body in the FO, on the coaching staff, and some major shakeups with the medical staff
