I think Golden was never given a fair shake to show how good of a coach he can be. He was doomed from the start.
I disagree about Shannon, but you may be right. Shall a never wanted a successful football program. Ver shortsighted on how much a top flight team can benefit the school at large.

I don't think our fans will regret letting go of Richt.
Kirby may not pan out as a head coach, but we had to part ways with Richt at some point.

The life of a football coach. Dude has lived in Georgia and had the same job for 14 years. 3 days later he's made the decision to move to Miami. I guess the millions of dollars make these quick decisions easier.

UGA is going to regret getting rid of Richt. This hire kind of confirms it was not exactly an amicable mutual parting.
I think Kirby is probably the next Muschamp.

I remember Shannon tried to poach Sumlin from Oklahoma to be his OC. OU simply outbid Miami and that's why Miami's coaching staffs have been so poor under Shannon and Golden. Coaching staffs and the salaries paid to such coaching staffs is a big factor in program success.

Yes he was....he refused to make key changes, one of which was getting rid of his BFF D'Onofrio as DC. Gary Ferman said earlier this year "same + same = same". He never made changes and it bit him in the arse.

how does that saying go? "What should be done eventually, must be done immediately" or somethign like that.
Richt was a VERY good coach, but it was time. He's been here damn 15 years, you kinda know what you're getting at that point. His first 5-7 years were phenomenal, one of the best runs we've ever had actually. The last 10 years we've won 1 BCS bowl and not much of anything else.
Kirby may flop, nobody knows. But the point is we couldn't keep going another 3 or 4 years with Richt. It was time for a change.

Exactly what Spurrier said when he resigned. "If you know something is inevitable, you might as well go ahead and do it."
