Someone needs to dark him into a scene at Del Boca Vista.

Not a bad way to "retire"

Could we see Miami winning the ACC title in the next 3 years?

Slam dunk hire. Richt will rehab the image, bring in tons of recruits, and dominate that terrible division.

UVA and Maryland are two programs that could be much better than they've been.

I think Maryland screwed up when they fired Freigen. The big man can't move too well, but he's a damned good offensive coach.

Did Miami have better facilities and fan support when they were winning national championships?

Let me say up front that I like Richt, but I think he is a horrible hire.

Look at Miami's history:

Schnellenberger - disciplinarian - Miami's rise to power
Jimmy - disciplinarian on the field - Miami reaches its greatest height
Dennis - player's coach - Momentum from Jimmy carries on a few years but the wheels start to come off
Butch - strong hand - Groundwork for the U's great second act is laid
Coker - weak - after cashing in on Butch's work, the train runs off the tracks
Randy - players' coach - The U fails to regain lost glory

Now Richt a players' coach is going to maintain control over the Dade County culture? I have my doubts.

The only ones actually relevant on that list are Coker and Shannon because they coached the U once the move to the ACC was made. Not only has Miami not won the ACC, they haven't even played for it.

Richt gives them a significantly better chance as an offensive mind and recruiter.

No. But none of the other schools did either.

You left out Al Golden.

I disagree with you. While Richt isn't a disciplinarian he is a good coach and if Miami will give him enough money to hire good assistants the U will be back. Honestly, I think Golden and Randy Shannon could've been successful had the administration given them the money to hire good assistants.

Mark should bring Butch in as coordinator and help him recruit the area.

Great hire. Miami-Huge Upgrade, Georgia-Downgrade. I'll bet in a couple of years UGA will wish they had Richt's 10-3 seasons back again.

Definitely agree. Richt is going to bring back some of that Schnellenberger magic to Miami. No doubt his program will be more successful than Kirby's at Georgia and I can't wait until the Georgia fans start regretting the firing.

Its true that Miami has crappy fan support, most games I saw this year looked like when Tulane played in the Dome. Huge stadium with 5000 people in it. But once he starts winning, the fans will come. They were there in the Schnelly, Jimmie, and Erickson years, they are just fair weather fans.
