It's a rake-like tool used to move dirt, sand, stone, etc. I need one to spread some #8 limestone and the hardware store didn't have a clue.
Any help is appreciated. TIA.

They can be found in Home Depot parking lot early in the morning.

Ive really only seen homemade ones now that I think about it. Are you looing for something similar to "raking" a baseball infield?

Me neither and I've spread yards upon yards upon yards of dirt and stone.

You talking about a tool that has a two inch wide metal blade about three feet long with teeth on top and bottom?

This was similar to the rake posted above, but instead of having a rake head on it, it had a rectangular piece of metal. You just drag it back and forth across the dirt, stone or whatever. It was an effortless way to move the stuff and smooth it out.

lowes sells them. look by the shovels and such.

If you're moving a lot of limestone/dirt, you might want to rig a chainlink fence section to the rear of the 4wheeler. woorks great for grading out large spaces. I graded out a couple football fields using that method.

DLauw it's as you described, but didn't have the teeth top/bottom.

But while you're here, I have to spread a lot of #8 limestone around my barn. In the event I never find the tool I've described, is there something you can suggest that is easier to use than a rake or shovel?

Dude buy a wide garden rake (pictured above) flip it over and spread your stone. You spreading 57? Or you got roadbase (limestone with fines)? If it's roadbase, you need to get a water hose and a roller (or a roller with a water tank) to pack it in. If it's 57 or larger just spread it, it will never pack and will rut every time you drive on it.

ETA: didn't read the rest of your post. I'd still use a wide garden rake on #8

Regarding the #8, is there anything else I need to do like pack it or just spread it out and roll with it? Won't drive on it, just trying to eliminate some wet/muddy areas around my barn.
Again I appreciate the advice.
