No, I went to the first doctor I could get an appointment into that was open on a Friday.

I was traveling back from Dallas and needed medical attention quickly.

Hmmm.

I had a bout like this some time back that went exactly like your story.

Down to going to specialists who checked lung capacity and allergic reactions that revealed zilch.

Coughs were bad enough that I tore a rib ligament at one point (and it was before eating).

It turned out to be GERD that resolved after a few weeks of perscribtion strength meds (Nexium to be exact).

Was the damnest thing, how the coughs went away completely not long after taking it and came back when it wore off.

You posted that you work out of town a good bit.

Have you you been spending a lot of time in the Southwest?

You could have Valley Fever.

Speaking of pulmonary virus, I just saw this pop up in my fb newsfeed:
quote:

On the CDC website, it states: From mid-August to September 16, 2014, a total of 130 people from 12 states were confirmed to have respiratory illness caused by EV-D68. The 12 states are Alabama, Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Missouri, New York, Oklahoma, and Pennsylvania. The cases of EV-D68 infection were confirmed by the CDC or state public health laboratories that notified CDC.

quote:

EV-D68 presents with cold-like symptoms, such as fever, coughing, body aches and a runny nose. It may also cause breathing problems or wheezing.

Fml, how did I just see this?

I've had a really, really bad cough for about 2 months now. When it first started I was pretty sick and went to the doctor. A Z-pack got me through the fever and other symptoms but I've kept this sever cough since.

It's not uncommon for me to cough 10 times in a row until I'm having to hold back throwing up, and a few times I have. Days or nights when it's bad neither me nor my gf can sleep. Nose still runs often but the other symptoms are few and far between now. I'm constantly exhausted but I've just attributed that to my party/sleep habits right now. Anyways, this couch is absolutely infuriating and sometimes boarders on depressing. I cannot stop.

I work primarily in Texas, but I have upcoming trips to Nashville, Las Vegas, Kansas City and Portland all within the next 6 to 8 weeks.

No body aches, no fever or runny nose.

Just a constant, deep cough and occasionally have congestion. Sounds like a coughing up a lung when it attacks.

Well my brother had a bad cough and no pain. Doctors treated him for every lung disorder in the book...pneumonia, asthma, bronchitis, respiratory infections, etc. After 11 months of doctors he lost his voice. Turns out he had Salivary gland cancer, which had spread to other areas. So make sure they check your throat/neck area.

Have you had a PPD test for TB? Coughing fits is what I recall having after exposure to TB. Also, had coughing spells from GERD exacerbated by CV exercise.

No, but I am going to take all the suggestions I have within this thread and ask my doctor what she thinks could be going on.

Not trying to be Debbie downer or scare you but my dad had a chronic couch (only symptom) which turned out to be a large tumor on his kidney. His kidney was immediately removed and he has been healthy ever since. That was over 30 years ago.

The dr said had he ignored it much longer he would have died.
