What does iowa do regarding OL coaching that lsu doesn't?

My guess is that not a single iowa OL starter was even remotely targeted by the lsus, bamas, osus of cfb.
yet game in game out iowa has good ol play, every year. for at leas the last 18 years.
if iowa can do it, why can't lsu?
watching them play tonight, and they just know what to do....

Well it’s a lot easier to recruit corn fed offensive linemen in the Midwest than it is to do down here.

I’m taking a wild shot in the dark. But if I had to guess, they have OL growing on trees in state (or bordering states) like we do secondary and skill position players.

Because they get those big corn fed white boys who play for little 1-3A schools in Iowa that no one bothers to even recruit.

Coaching coaching and coaching. Plus our recruiting has been all steak but no sizzle.

Louisiana has them. We just think we have to leave the state to find them. Iowa builds from inside out. Ferentz knows how to find the big vuys he can develop

Kids who might be 260lbs in HS and need time to develop instead of 315lbs HS seniors LSU recruits. Personally always though that a HS OL recruit should be coming out at a leanish 260-270lbs and prototypical length, with better foot speed and athleticism. You can build them up better than trim them down.

They breed bigger people up there. It’s really that simple.

Ferentz’s background is in OL coaching at the college and pro levels. I’m sure that helps.

They have them farm baws

He's not developing them enough to win consistently.

Most of these guys don't end up playing serious snaps until their 3rd, 4th year when they have developed physically. Iowa and those programs like to take on athletes that have the gifts that they then match with the physique.
It would be easy to just say "well why not do that?" but its hard when other aspects of the program aren't ran that way. Thats why you need to retain players like Cole Smith.

Yeah that has to be a good sell. You know you'll get good development there even though you won't win any championships.

I hate questions like this because you clearly don't pay attention to college football
Iowa, ND, Wisconsin etc all recruit local 3* occasional 4* guys that stay 4/5 yrs. They buy into the system. Iow and Wisconsin will never win a national championship with their current offense BUT it's a system that's been in place for 2 decades so they remain relevant and can compete against your OSU, Michigan, PSU every few years do to the next crop of senior heavy classes they have.

Play in the Big 10

Too hot down hear you produce big boys like that. All the bug boys like that down here just end up eating too much gumbo and rice and get fat and join the band.

Farm boy strength is a lot more prevalent in the Midwest.

They're really good at wrasslin'.

Exactly. The major programs are recruiting guys who are physically ready out of high school. They’re not going to wait for a guy to grow into the position, you don’t have that luxury when you’re trying to max sign every year and have constant attrition.
