I don't know why Cleco got this new rate structure approved, that's a PSC question. I was very surprised too as I just moved from Metairie to Mandeville and am used to a single rate from Entergy.
I think the Cleco letter said something about not getting a rate change in 10 years but I was shocked between my bills in from June to July. I don't see why it costs more or less per unit of power to provide power depending on how much any home consumes.

Remember when we had energy independence under the last president? Yeah he got elected out by 81m people.

Cleco is full of shite....the actual gas charge on my bill went up a modest amount about 50 bucks which is about what I expected...I actually expected closer to 60.
However the shite part is it went up another 200 (my bill before any increase hovered around 250-280 in the summer) due to a Cleco rate increase that the LPSC approved earlier this year.
So for them to tell you the high rates are due to the gas prices that is about 80% bullshite.

It wouldn't surprise me if Mike Francis had some positive financial windfall in the last 8-12 months.
Also it's been 7 years since Cleco's last rate increase...2014 if I'm not mistaken. They tell you its to ugrade infrastructure...but damn how many poles and lines have been replaced due to hurricanes in the last 10 years? That is a whole separate line item charge on your bill.
Honestly I'm lucky that I can go from paying 290/month for electricity to $500+ and not be financially impacted much....BUT I don't see the average person being able to stomach this very easily.

Demco sent an email out that basically said the price to produce the Entergy is high right now and is out of there control. Bills will be high for the foreseeable future.
Cleco produces Demco's power. For Demco customers it went up roughly .015 cents so about 15%.

Bitching about these amounts? From $100-115 to $150?
Damn you poor. Do better.
You don't get rich by letting other people rip you off even if you can "afford" it.

Because it's summer maybe?
I used 3 kwh more in 07/20 than I did in 07/21....my bill in 07/21 is $335 more than 07/20.
Summer doesn't explain that away.

Pretty sure I've gotten rain between 1-4 in the afternoon since the beginning of May. Seems to track with my usage.

Get some energy efficiency, insulation, new windows, something baw.
You think his landlord is going to replace all of that for him to have a lower electricity bill?
Also, Entergy customers are getting hit with a hurricane surcharge from October's storm.

The rate above 1500 kwH is about 50% higher than the base rate up to 1,000 (0.10047 vs 0.06977) so your cost/unit increases exponentially after you pass 1500 kwH on the energy charge, which is usually the fixed part of the bill. A house that consumes 2,500 kwH is at roughly $240 BEFORE the variable cost of fuel!

After this $3.5T bill passes....your paycheck will amazingly shrink before your eyes!
Double digit inflation is a real possibility.

What gives?
Higher fuel adjustment cost thanks to Beijing Biden shutting down O&G. It has a serious snow ball affect on everything

I've been told that every single cent is going to improve our infrastructure.
Are you telling me I've been lied to?

No, the infrastructure bill is $1.2T....then add the $3.5T budget reconciliation nightmare coming!
Better buy land, gold, antique cars, etc......stock market will go under water soon.
