I want to take my girlfriend to Acadiana for the day/evening on Saturday and looking for really good Acadiana experiences. I plan to hit up some of the great Boudin institutions but I’m really looking for a good Cajun restaurant to have lunch or dinner. I’m looking for great Cajun food with that Cajun experience. My frame of reference is Fizzos which I love. Is there anything better I should try? Cost is no object.

take her to cafe josephines in sunset.
but, if you want real cajun food, someone will have to cook for you. there's no restaurant that really serves authentic cajun rice and gravy. they'll do seafood but, you won't be eating any real cajun shite.

true. he could get plate lunches to get a cajun experience. it would be more authentic cajun than seafood platters.

Take a look at Poor Boys Riverside Inn in Broussard. It's primarily a seafood restaurant, but there are lots of crawfish dishes including bisque with boulettes. There are gumbos, etouffees and other Cajun dishes.
The menu has photographs of the dishes online.

It has a neat old Cajun sort of atmosphere tucked away off the street among lots of trees with a pond (I think it's a pond) on the side of it with cypress trees and other foliage.
I haven't been in a while, but each time I have been, the waitress has had a pretty heavy Cajun accent. I've always enjoyed the place. It's pretty busy, so if you decide to go there, look into reservations. Ask for a table with a view of the water.
Report back on wherever you go, please!

Good recommendation. Their lump crabmeat dish is simple, but delicious. Went a few months ago and the property was overrun with raccoons.

you will definitely see raccoons at Poor Boys Riverside (240 Tubing Road, just off Hwy 90 in Broussard). I'd often take friends there who were in town from Texas, they loved it, especially the stuffed flounder

It sort of feels like you're in the middle of swampland from the inside looking out!

Plate lunches are your best bet for authentic cajun cooking, Saturday makes it tricky because most are closed or don't have Sat. lunch specials
Noah's Saturday options:
Smothered oxtails - grilled pork steak - fried pork chop - red beans/sausage - baked chicken
Poche's Saturday options: (haven't been since pandemic so not positive if still the same):
Pork Backbone Stew - BBQ Ribs - BBQ Chicken - Stuffed Pork Chops - BBQ Ribeyes
Suire's Grocery: changes but they've been doing spaghetti on Saturdays, they have good cajun foods on their full menu, mmmmm and some homemade tarts.
Johnsons Boucaniere: you mentioned boudin, you won't be disappointed here. Think they bbq on Saturdays or just stop in and get a few links.
Laura's 2 - Bourdain went to Suire's, he went here too. Haven't been on a Sat but I think you could go get a stuffed turkey wing.
The French Press: brunch spot downtown. The favorite, the cajun benedict (eggs benedict with boudin topped with two poached eggs and chicken and sausage gumbo) or the grits and grillades will give you what you're looking for.

The desserts at Suire's are awesome too... heavenly hash, cream cheese bars, fig cake, etc

Come to Scott and hit Uncle T’s.
You get a chance to hit all the Boudin spots and have a good dinner.

All of the boudin places in Scott and greater Lafayette are good, and definitely top tier examples of boudin, but
quote:is a relatively hidden gem that very rarely gets discussed. It is easily my favorite boudin stop in that part of the world, and second only (IMO) to my personal favorite, Mr. T’s in Elton.
