yeah its not a good vaccine, stick with pfizer or moderna
You realize that the flu vaccine which is hocked on every single person in this country probably more so than any other product on the market is about 40-60% effective depending on the predominant flu variant of the season.
Prior to the mRNA vaccines 60% efficacy was considered damn good.

The JNJ numbers are from a study of 45,000. The earlier vaccine studies were off of like 900 people, the earlier "success rates" are complete speculation
Wrong. Pfizer had ~40000 split into the two arms of the trial moderna had like 35,000

That isn't as fun for the OT though.

Well millions of people will have had the Moderna and Pfizer vaccine by mid February, so we will have a shitload of data on their efficacy.
"We have to pass the bill to see what's in it!"

This is just simply not true....Moderna and Pfizer each had at least 30000 people in their last testing rounds....I think one had up to like 45K can't remember which one though.

That's actually better than most flu vaccines, right?

Flu is about 70% efficacy so on par.
Its about the same.

that's what you honestly want right now. a vaccination that can be given widespread, easily, 1 shot, and reduces hospitalizations/severity.
more companies able to do this, at this point, the better.

I know it will take awhile to study but I am very interested to see what happens when vaccines are given to people who already have some natural immunity due to a previous infection. The amateur scientist in me thinks it would boost efficiency but this area certainly isn't in my wheelhouse.

I am really curious as well since I've already had COVID.
In regular years I travel at least once or twice internationally, and I think a vaccine is going to be required at some point for that. So I am anxious to hear about it.

I imagine efficacy and effectiveness are calculated differently (optimal conditions in RCTs vs. real-world observation), but, in the past decade plus, the highest effectiveness for the flu vaccine has been 60%

I read 70% efficacy for flu vaccine not long ago, but I could be wrong. Very far from an expert.

It appears as though efficacy come from optimal conditions and random control studies, while effectiveness is observational of what happens out in the wild when vaccines are administered to the public.

I am intrigued by this as well. I may be totally wrong but I thought at least with Phizer and Moderna the vaccine creates a different antibody than the one created by natural infection. I went down a rabbit hole one night about whether vaccinated people could donate blood for antibody plasma.

natural immune response tests better than all these vaccines. it is a sham.

So this isn't bad in a pinch, especially in places where shipping refrigerated or frozen doses can be complicated.

This is dumbest argument of all time

I have seen some Dr on twitter say that had Moderna or Phizer done their trials at the height of infection like J&J their efficacy would be lower. A lot of Dr believe while still very effective the 90% plus numbers are likely not accurate.
I just hope the decision to inject young healthy medical workers first with the vaccines (those with almost no risk of serious illness) doesn’t come back to bite us in the arse.

The one shot vaccines will be used for Africa.
