Devin White takes the top spot for me.
Much respect to other greats like Capone, Richardson, James, and Caston.

I will say this I thought Devin White was incredible and if I had to pick 3 Linebackers in LSU history it would be Michael Brooks and Eric Hill on the outside and Devin White in the middle. If playing a 3-4 i would add Albert Richardson as the other middle linebacker.
To give some perspective on how great Michael Brooks was imagine a linebacker who did what Devin White did but did it in the other teams backfield instead of a yard or two downfield. That was Michael Brooks.
Again Devin White incredible but Michael Brooks played the game in the opposing backfield.

This. For Top 5 #5 from a list of Bevan, Anderson, Capone or James.
Bonus: A couple of Honorable Mentions that have not been listed so far: Rudy Harmon, Shawn Burks (tackling machine) and Lawrence Williams (tackling machine).

in college every opponent started with “How will we handle Michael Brooks?” No opponent did that for White.
Dafuq? Lol

Yep, Michael Brooks doesn’t get the recognition he deserves. He was an All American at LSU and was an absolute terror on the field. Dude had all the tools. His knee injury set him back a lot. Back then an ACL surgery wasn’t what it is today and recovery wasn’t a guarantee. He played Pro football but it took him a couple years to get back to something close to what he was. He was never quite the same after the injury.

You obviously never saw him play. Yes, seriously

"My first training camp with the Giants, we are running this short yardage drill and one of the running backs breaks for what appears to be a touchdown," Strahan recalled about a practice session in 1993. "Then out of nowhere, here comes Michael and he delivers a hit so hard that the guy literally flies through the air like Superman.
"And I'm thinking, 'Oh God, I'm just glad I've got Michael Brooks on my side.' I had never seen anything like that, but it gives you a good idea as to how powerful, quick and strong he was and the type of impact he could make on the field."
Strahan also said this about Brooks

75% of this board doesn’t know who Michael Brooks is.

And these comments are about Brooks AFTER his knee surgery. He was never quite the player after that surgery, although he was two times first team AA in college and All Pro two times.
Anybody who responds on this thread should qualify their opinion by stating whether they ever saw Michael Brooks play.

I'm late to this party, but I drew the assignment of blocking Michael Brooks in a first round playoff game at Ruston in 1982 (played for Shreve). It was impossible. We must have tried 3 or 4 guys on him. I'm not sure, but I think he might have given me a concussion.

Billy Cannon - even though he was primarily a running back, he also played some at linebacker when needed. Maybe the best all around football player ever for the Tigers.

Since I've been watching LSU, it's definitely Devin White. An absolute destroyer at MLB and a true LSU Tiger! He's a once in a lifetime type player for sure! Still representing in the NFL!
