Family Staying With Us For Christmas Are Mad I Don't Want Dog on Furniture

My wife's little brother and his wife are planning on staying with us in our home for Christmas. They're bringing their dog, which is fine. I do not allow pets on my furniture however and the sister-in-law is apparently pretty upset about this. She feels like I'm some kind of monster since I don't want dog hair all over my sofa, chairs etc. Not to mention dirty paws if it's raining.
I told my wife they are free to go to a hotel if they think I'm a monster, but she's hesitant to tell them that.
Has anyone had this issue before?

Sounds pretty rude from the little brother and his wife. It's your house and your rules, they can suck it.

Tell her you’ll make an exception for her but not the dog.

They can always stay at the Holiday Inn

Email them your preferred pet friendly local hotel accommodations

Bottom line, when you go to someone's home you play by their rules. You don't like it then don't go. It really is that simple.

Tell them to go frick themselves if they can't follow the rules.
It's your house.
It's your house.

Just put an old sheet on your sofa and only allow Fideaux on the sofa and not on any other furniture.

If they can’t respect your house rules, tell them to go somewhere else. I allow dogs on my couches, but it’s my house. And we actually use covers. Everyone has their own rules. If visitors can’t respect it, they can GTFO.

Tell the wife to leave the dog at home or head to a hotel. I’m a dog owner/lover, but I have no right to tell you what my dog will and will not do at your place.

I know there are just ridiculous people out there, but for stories like this I wonder if things get lost in translation.
Either she's just a terrible person or there is a disconnect and she's not actually mad about the furniture thing. Maybe they just got defensive when told about it ahead of time? If I were bringing my dog to someone's home and they told me he couldn't get on furniture, I might bristle a little because that would go without saying and I'm not the type to let kids/dogs run roughshod over someone else's house.

I like my dog more than i like most people... that said, if it’s your house, then they need to abide by your rules.

Why don't YOU man up and tell your bro in law the rules. Stop using your wife as the bearer of bad news.

It’s your house, your rules. But the dog isn’t messing up your furniture by just sleeping/sitting on it. Put a sheet down and relax nancy

Sounds like the sister n law is looking for an excuse to get out of spending Christmas at your house.

They wouldn't be bringing their dog if they were coming to my house.

We will need an in-game thread for when they make it to your house.

Don’t even get used to her name. Any woman that is that selfish and stupid will make everyone miserable
