Can any Freshman athlete play in the Fiesta Bowl and retain their redshirt?

We need to play, if YES, ANYONE who could provide assistance to the starters and this will help the team and give any young player a valuable experience.
I cannot wait for 2019, with all of our players back in the fold.

I'm going to assume you are NOT talking about 2019 freshmen...
As for those who are freshmen this year- yes. As long as this is not their 5th game to appear in.
The bowl game on the first day of 2019 is considered part of the 2018 NCAA calendar, which isn't the same as the Gregorian calendar.
So if your question is related to the game happening in the calendar year of 2019 affects eligibility, the answer is no.
If, by chance, you are referring to the class of 2019 recruits who signed Dec 19th- Dec 21st, no. They are not eligible. They are not students yet and they have not met the NCAA hourly requirement (because they aren't taking classes).

Would be nice if enrolled hours counted, so we could play the Speing early enrollees. It would make these bowl games so much more interesting.

And more than likely embarrass any kid playing after being here for a week, and worse than that maybe crush their confidence so much so they never bounced back.

That’s reading way too much into it guys. Only a handful of Uber talented players would even touch the field, and they would most likely only play special teams due to their short amount of time.

If you're talking about 2018 freshmen (or any class that was here during the season), then- yes. The rule is 4 games or less now.
I think OP might be sort of thinking about the Randall Gay situation in 2001; didn't play as a freshman all season, had to play (and burned his redshirt) in the postseason.
Under today's rules, Gay would still have redshirted, and thus would have been a redshirt freshman in 2002 instead of a sophomore.
Myles Brennan will be a redshirt sophomore next year, no matter what. He could start this game and it wouldn't matter, from what I know.
I'd think since the bowls don't really matter (your top players are sitting out), it would probably be in LSU's best interest to play everyone they can, to reward the players who did redshirt this year. Let them see the field. A win would be nice for us fans, but give the players some experience.

Here's the only way I can think to say it without referring to a rule book:
- To participate (dress out, sideline, travel, play) in an NCAA sanctioned game you have to maintain a certain course load with a minimum GPA. That's it. Classes = Games.
The grades and classes/hours apply to playing games.
That's why the NCAA year starts basically in early spring (after 2nd signing period ends). All LOI's have to be done, and there's ample time to get courses behind you and work on gpa before labor day.
Being enrolled and having financial aid (or blue/gray shirts, walk-on offer) signed applies to practicing only. If enrolled/registered and having signed something that the team accepts (i.e. LOI), means you are on the team and can practice with the team.
