Anyone in here diagnosed with DDD? Just recently got diagnosed with it and didn’t get any good explanation of it from my doctor. Looking for maybe a litttke more information from someone who actually has it going on in their back.
ETA 8/29: Bumping this thread to check in and see how people have been doing.

As you get older the discs in your spine start to dry out and put more pressure on the surrounding nerves. It's not a "disease" in the sense that it's something you contract. It's just part of the natural aging process, which of course can be sped up by injury or other factors

It sucks. Various things such as stretching, strengthening the muscles, & foam rolling/deep tissue work can help to relieve the pain.

ALt - Thanks for your reply, I just recently found this out that its just normal wear and tear. I have three bulging disc in my back which seem to be causing some mild back pain and tingling in my legs.I have had no injuries that I can recall and am only 28. My doctor didn't touch on it much and said physical therapy should help me out but I am curious as to the long term prognosis as to whether this will just keep worsening over the years or can it stay constant with the right lifestyle changes.

It can do better with lifestyle change also look into steroid shots from a pain management doc.

Chiropractor will definitely take a look at it for you.

I have it.
I use a wobble chair to stretch my vertebrae when it acts up.

Has your dr mentioned spinal cord stimulation as an option?

I have the same issues at 28 years old also. It is almost as if the doctors don't take me seriously because of my age, but I have missed many weeks of work over the past 5 years because of this. About once a year it gets so bad that I have to stay in bed for a few days until it gets better.
Never can trace back any of my injuries to a certain event, or "crack" moment--just every now and then, the sumbitch hurts.

I have it in two discs in my lower back.
L4-L5
L5-S1
My doctor explained it is all about management of the problem until you can't anymore then a fusion is the surgical option.
PT and steroid shots are the bridge until they don't work anymore.

Get yourself a firm mattress. And soak every morning in a jet tub. And stay hydrated. You'll thank me.
I have a few accidents that affected my spine and a long time spent in a weight room that did a number on them as well.
If I soak, and drink enough water, I still feel 20. If I don't, I'm in my 60s

LZ thanks for the reply, luckily my pain is very little most of the time, its the numbness/tingling in my legs that is the most frustrating. Usually in my back its just a feeling of pressure/muscle strain.

The steroid shots can help shrink the bulging discs hopefully eliminating the numbness

It's essentially arthritis in your lower back. Everyone at a certain age will have some DDD in their lumbar spine.. depends on what symptoms you have

I’ve got all kinds of issues with my L5. DDD, grade 2 spondy, annular tear, and herniated. Just got my first injection last week.
shite sucks. Got in an accident a few months back and It fricked me up bad
The worst part is sleeping the wrong way and my entire left leg goes numb. It takes a solid 10-15 minutes to get it to come back

That sucks man, luckily as of right now I don't have much pain. It started out as a very sharp pain in my low back for a couple of months, I just thought I pulled a muscle. Then it turned to pressure and the leg tingling so I went and had an MRI a couple weeks ago and I found out I had three very small bulges and disc degeneration my L5-S1.

First thing is to take your wallet out of your back pocket and start carrying it in your front pocket!!

Haha luckily I did that about 6 months ago and bought one of those ridge wallets. Guess its damage had already been done.
