I find that professional dress is a largely outdated concept for jobs that aren't public facing. Is there really a reason why Joe in accounting has to come to work every day with a shirt and tie other than that's because it's how it has always been done?

I can also agree with this, but I still believe a polo and dress pants are essential to keeping some level of professionalism within an organization.

There's one guy here who wear brown shoes and black belts. I don't get how you can leave your house like that.

This person is a psychopath and it would be in your best interest to befriend him. If he snaps, he may give you a head start and shoot the others first.

I saw a guy at out national sales meeting wearing slacks, a dress shirt tucked into his pants, and no belt. I’m no fashionista but even I was like wtf. If your pants have belt loops and your shirt is tucked in, put a dam belt on.

Dress for the job you want, not the job you have

This is a pretty harsh criticism on my own sex, but I feel that women are somewhat ruining proper business attire. In a setting where the men are wearing full suits, I've seen women wearing a sundress with a blazer or cardigan and in some instances even "dressy" sandals.

I have sent employees home to dress correctly. Never had to do this 20 year ago

Mustard yellow and brown are the only acceptable colors in an office workplace.

Warren Buffet and Bill Gates dress like a couple dorks - crew's on their Gulf Stream 6 pick up the slack.

It's actually "in" now to wear no belt. Look at the people at like Wimbledon or something. Many of the people won't be wearing belts with their suites. Theory is if you have pants that fit right you don't need a belt.

I wear a belt I'm just telling you, but this guy could have also just been a dumbass that forgot his belt, who knows.

Yep. It's an antiquated belief. People need to get with the times

Maybe he forgot to pack his belt or possibly TSA confiscated it before his flight.

Steve Jobs (and Zuckerberg too I think) purposefully wore the same stupid outfits because he believed he didn't have the mental energy to waste on picking out clothes. So black turtle neck and jeans made getting dressed easier in the morning.

I watch my wife pick out her clothes for work in the morning, and it wears me out. You'd think she was solving a calculus problem.

Dont forget the guys who wear suits a couple sizes too small. That is supposed to be the "in" thing. But they end up looking like 10 pounds of flour stuffed into a 5 pound bag.

A suit is supposed to fit, not looks like yoga pants.

Its really sad...

I really have no sense of style or fashion at all really, but that does sound a little obnoxious. I try to just keep it conservative and hope that I'm not too sloppy.

I've said something similar before. Female attorneys often have this issue. I've seen them wear stretchy pants and buttoned sweaters... the equivalent to men sweat pants and a fleece jackets. Most judges won't risk coming off sexist. The articles on this topic mention sexy outfits, but those seem to be the minority in my experience. The stretchy pants/relaxed look in the legal workplace seems to way more common... while men can't enter most courtrooms without a coat and tie. LINK /
