You can't make this shite up. Calling in the National Gaurd....To tell the water board when and if a pump has a problem. Just gonna sit there and pay expensive resources to watch the pumps. For the water board. Who's primary mission in life is to keep pumps running.

PS I smell plenty of "diligent-looking" photo ops in embroidered work shirts.

So when the pumps fail and the city floods, conspiracy theorists will claim the national guard directed by trump sabatoged the pumps. Is that about right?

"That's one of the reasons we are sending national guardsmen down there so that we know all the pumps are being monitored in real time with communications. So that in the event that corrective action needs to be taken on those pumps, it can happen as soon as possible," Gov. John Bel Edwards said at a press conference Thursday afternoon.

Translation: "Mitch Landrieu and the Sewage & Water Board are too incompetent to do this on their own so I will be sending in the National Guard to do it for them."

Mitch prolly figures once the pumps fail the thugs will be looting and going on a rampage so we'll need the national guard there anyway.

So they're admitting they're too incompetent to do something as simple as monitor a pump and communicate it.

These are the people we pay to run our city

Well, the civilian cats ran from their posts the last time, right?

I just hope this storm ends up weaker than expected and pushes further to the east of the city (with apologies to the Mississippi and Alabama GC folks).

Curtis said the troops have been taught how to catch pump failures and malfunctions. If a guardsman sees something go wrong, he or she will immediately get in contact with the Sewerage & Water Board and city by phone or radio, so city officials can send out a team for maintenance work.

Where the hell are the S&WB teams, then? They have to be called in? What. The. EverLoving frick?

The real solution is to have competent city leaders, namely a mayor that doesn't suck.

You know how people will purposefully leave their cars in flood prone areas so get an insurance check? I honestly think Mitch and the gang WANT NOLA to flood so that they can siphon off some FEMA money. As mentioned, this would give them a chance to pass blame onto the National Guard when the pumps inevitably fail.

I should have started an LLC for power station equipment monitoring services and billed NO a shitpile of money to sit around and watch the turbines rust.

I noticed the mayor declared state of emergency status yesterday. Is that typical for something still a few days away? Is he putting the horse behind the cart that far in advance?

Why not?

The governor and mayor love spending other people's money. It's free!

the Feds need to come down and arrest Mitch and company for allowing this to happen. NOLA was paid around 18 billion dollars for hurricane protection, which included the pump stations. There is no reason these pumps should be in the disarray they are in right now. There was money to rebuild/fix/ keep them running. And the politicians stole it.
