Last place I worked (big financial firm) girl being let go went ballistic and threw her chair through the conference room window. Thankfully, it wasn't me doing the firing.

She sounds a little like this guy. His firings were always epic events.

Wait until Friday and make sure she returns any company property before she leaves. Don't give her any reason to return ever. Get everything squared away including her payroll issues.

Chances are she knows its coming if she is that bad of a fit.

Keep it short and to the point.

Don't make it an apology.

Typically the OT would suggest you PIIHB and tell her to make a sandwich, but that doesn't seem appropriate in this situation.

That's all I got. Good luck.

Treat it like you're the defendant of a criminal investigation. "Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law"

Louisiana does not require a cause to be explicitly stated. You can simply say that you are restructuring the position and she is being let go.

Anything else you say will only open you up to lawsuits.

Just tell her she is terminated and don't even give her a reason unless you are in a situation you have to give a reason. Tell her to collect her things and leave.

It is never fun to fire an individual but don't make it personal. It isn't your fault they are getting fired.

Give her the chance to resign so she's not another statistic drawing unemployment. I can't stand the mooching sob's. No sense in her getting my money because she couldn't do her job to begin with.

Unemployment insurance isn't YOUR money you fricking idiot. It's actually the employee's money. Half was taken out of their paycheck directly and the other half is compensation that is paid to the government instead of the employee directly.

I never understood companies who fight unemployment., you've already paid the fricking money in just let them collect it.

As for firing someone, being military I never had to do it, but my brother has had to do several and hates it every time no matter how much the employee deserves it. Just be direct and non confrontational, no discussions or whatever.

When they show up for work, tell them that their spouse/SO/etc called and that their parent/child had a severe accident and they need to meet them at the hospital right away. When they freak out and start crying, that's when you tell them 'Nah, I'm just kidding. You're fired.'

break up with your significant other today. then you will know exactly what to do when you fire her tomorrow because they both use the same techniques.

A trick my brother has used with a couple of people who he thought might cause a scene. Take them to a nice lunch and let them go in public. Not like at the top of your voice so everyone in the restaurant hears you, but just lowkey in a public setting. Less likely to get an explosive response. And as a bonus you have their last paycheck with you and that's that. You'll ship their private belongings to them, no need for them to return to the business. Lunch is on me, good luck in the future.

If at all possible bring along someone from management who is the same gender as the person you are firing.

Stop paying them, usually sorts it's way out.
