A group of Americans paid private money to put these up in public places and the government is choosing which side is bad and offensive. This is a freedom of speech issue. I am offended at what the national endowment for the arts pays for but get told to suck it up and not look at it.

I get that. It's really not a bad argument.

Find enough people who feel the way you do and you might be able to change it.

Mitch and others made race relations much much worse in LA when nobody cared about the statues. Mitch will go down as the piece of sheet he is and RELee will always be an example of what a true man should try to emulate. Mitch was trying to get higher office and REL was loyal to his home state of Virginia. Mitch sold his state out while the general may have been too loyal.

Would you be upset if Donald Trump called for Barack Obama High School in Dallas to be renamed? This stuff cuts both ways and I'm sorry you are too stupid to understand this. When you say "what happened?" when stuff you care about us obliterated, don't come crying (but I'm sure you will).

I agreed with you and said it was a good point

No. Not even a little bit. It's the name of a school, it doesn't change what Barack Obama accomplished in any way.

You've got me pegged all wrong.

What I have you pegged as is being totally self-centered. Why are you wasting time commenting about how much you don't care?

Like I said, I'm genuinely trying to understand why people DO care so much.

Because my great-great grandfather lost his arm at pea ridge Arkansas and I fully expect his gravestone to be obliterated. That is sick. There are thousands of graves that are going to be tampered with. I fully expect this.

My great great great great great Uncle was the president of the Confederate States of America. My family was HEAVILY involved in this war.

There are still hundreds of books available on the subject of the civil war. It has not been banned from classrooms anywhere. There are still museums open all over with artifacts and knowledge on the subject. History isn't truly being rewritten. The only thing that's being removed is symbolism. This is I guess why I don't fully understand why it's so upsetting to people.

I do think the money being spent on these removal projects is a god damn joke.

I've seen no evidence that this is going to be the case. Who would even know the history of what your great-great grandfather did?

When it comes to this I will personally head up to protect him.

There were literally thousands upon thousands of soldiers who fought for the Confederacy. How will anyone know which grave is which? Jefferson Davis has a life size statue and Confederate Flag above his so that one is pretty obvious.

But Joe Riley from Greenville, MS who has been dead and buried for 80 years isn't going to have his grave messed with. That's silly.

This is mob rule, common sense doesn't come into play with these people.

I agree that mobs can be pretty senseless sometimes. I'm not trying to be a dick but you seem to be in the know here so I'll ask - do the graves of people you know have some sort of confederate markings on them?

I'm thinking about making a confederate statue cemetery on my property.
We own couple thousand acres along side a busy hwy.

I'll erect a Confederate flag unlike anything the world has ever seen.
Charge rednecks and good ole baws 20 bucks a head to come tour.

Wait for it.

Robert E. Lee was an honorable man and even 'ole Honest Abe asked him to fight for the Union when war was inevitable. But Lee, being dedicated to his state, declined.
