Absolutely not. She can either bring her own food or eat what you serve or starve and eat after.

Update...

Dinner is almost finished

SIL just called and said she's tired and isn't coming
well with how welcoming you sounded like you were, I can't say I blame her.

I'd rather just not be invited then someone throw a hissy fit because they have to have extra veggies and salad for me. It's not a big deal at all.

If you put chicken broth in the lentil, you really really suck. I hope you experience something of the same equivalence some day. It may not be food, but it will be something important to you. Like really really suck...

fwiw I brought my own meals to every event I went to (family wise) for 4 years. Eventually, I stopped showing up because no one else had to prepare their own food to show up. Suddenly my family learned how simple it is to have vegan options. I didn't make a big deal about it either.
Oh the power of an open mind...

Do you like being the high maintenance drama queen of your family? Cuz.......that's what you are.

Personally, I use a diva cup... ;) come on.. you should've known that.

Sounds like you're the one who got your ninnies all in a wad over a simple solution to a not-problem.

lol, like I said I never asked anyone to cook me anything ever. They chose to after many years because they figured out its simple (they used their brain... woah). Now they have something for me because they want me there

Not a drama queen at all.

Op is a drama queen. Asked for a recipe then complained the whole time

What I disagree with is that you put your food preferences above being with your family by not showing up. Changes my opinion.

If I had a food preference that was inconvenient to others, I would make accommodations for myself, rather than expecting others to accommodate me.

I didn't miss any events. They suddenly decided to put hummus and crackers on the table for me. Not a big deal.

But your opinion is yours alone so it can be whatever you want it to be... I will note that though.

My point was that the op came in mad he had to change a menu that, he said in the op, he hadn't even created yet. So basically just came to complain.

Also wasn't expecting that kind of response from you gg .

I didn't expect the above from you. It was quite a surprise. It's like saying "if you're not going to have food I can eat, I'm not coming."

Now, you say:

I didn't miss any events.

You didn't show up, but you didn't miss anything?

As I said in my first post in this thread, we have accommodated folks with specific eating desires. We do it all time, in fact. If we're having seafood and someone has an allergy, we prepare something different for that person, for example. It's really not a big deal, as you say, and as I said previously.

Yeah there were a few times I didn't go out of my way to make it to some type of gathering, but I didn't miss Christmas or thanksgiving etc. Missed a couple football games and some after New Year's Day type dinners. The horror.

Interesting priorities.

Your story seems to have changed from "stopped showing up" to "didn't go out of my way to make it".

Is this about food, or is it some kinda power struggle? A vegan side dish isn't a big deal to offer to guests. Nor is it a big deal if someone who comes over has to eat lightly or merely have snacks or just a beverage for one damn meal of their lives. Why be militant on either side (pro or anti vegan)? Whew. Too much pointless conflict over what other people do or do not put into their mouths.

The only reason I chimed in was because GEAUXT thought he was the most clever man alive for cooking a vegan's lentils in chicken broth. I wanted to let him know he was a shitty person... that's all.

For those times when you feel like you keep having the same meals over and over, try a meatless meal. One day per week, prepare something without meat. It doesn't have to be completely vegan. It opens up a plethora of new recipes. You will discover a few new favorites, and the next time you host a veggie you will have something you can make that is familiar to you.

I made a habit of this and it really makes a difference not only for me cooking, but if I eat at a place that has limited options.

Extra firm tofu cut into small cubes, deep fried, and then marinated in a frontera sauce. Makes killer tacos.
