Too much of ANYTHING is bad for you.
The real question is how much is too much.
The standard American diet lends towards eating more protein than the average person needs for basic functions. That being said, it may not be enough for someone with a more active life style.
Likewise, some of the protein recommendations you see for people trying to put on muscle mass may actually be higher than what is truly needed to accomplish the task. However, eating protein instead of carbs may provide other health benefits depending on your goals and macro count.

so long as you are healthy and drink plenty of water(100+ oz and close to a gallon if possible) then no so long as you don't go over 600+ grams for an extended period of time. Plenty of studies to back this up, don't let those trying to sell a product scare you.
Eat 1g per lbs of bodyweight to 2gxbw and you will be more than fine so long as you drink water.
Granted if you are pounding beer, not drinking water, working out 2-3x a day and eating mega protien, sure. otherwise no.

About the standard rule of thumb for bodybuilders gaining mass. I have seen some bump up even more but most of these guys are also on gear and have to feed that animal. That's seriously alot of damn protein to consume on a daily basis.
If you are thinking about consuming that much I would invest in mucho TP and maybe a good toilet as well.

Incorrect. Too much protein can cause CKD. It can and does make it hard to get rid of waste. Ask your nephrologist about this.

Only if you arent drinking anough water or previous kidney problems. In a helathy individual that is drinking a gallon plus of water a day, this is a non issue up to 600+ grams a day.
I dont care what any doctor says, there are a ton of studies trying to prove high protein intake can cause kidney problems and they have not been able to so far an healthy individuals.

I don't always eat this much. Just depends on what kind of meso-cycle I am in at the time. But 2xBW might seem extreme, but Doggcrapp Trainees, Fortitude Trainees, and Wendlers Trainees having been having crazy success with it for years.
Everyone screams 1g per pound of BW, yet most of these people look the same year after year. Making your body do something it doesn't want to do takes extreme meausures. Sorry, but it does. It wont be necessary for everyone and most can progress at first with 1gxBW. But I look at protein like a drug, you start at the minimal amount needed for growth, as you plateau you raise the amount topping off at 2xBW or so. I have seen some go up to 3xBW for a 6-8 meso cycle, but most people won't need that. The ones that did that had been stuck for over a year in about the same place and were just tired of the grind with little results to show for it and decided to go drastic. The 4 people I have have known that did it, go the results, but started to hate food by the end
BTW my current split is 1.5xBW on training days. 0.8xBW on rest days.

Wouldn't that equate to like 6lbs of meat or 45 cans of pintos for a wacky plant based person. Seems a tad extreme.

That is about me to a tee on protein intake but I am not trying to add mass.

Did you read my post? I said three times it's crazy extreme. As far as how much meat that equates too, depends on type of meat, precooked vs cooked weight etc. it's a shot ton either way and how they did it was just had a 50g protein shake with each meal and 75g post workout.
Btw I said a bunch this isn't needed unless you are crazy advanced and have been plateaud for months.

I am more recomping right now with more focus on fat loss while keeping performance high, so not trying to add mass either.
If I were trying to add mass I would be closer to 2x on lift days and 1-1.25 on rest days.

Depends on the person. Skimming through I saw mentions of 600g which is ridiculous. You need maybe 1g per pound of body weight. Someone that's larger trying to lose weight needs to maybe shoot for 1g of lean body mass.
Now depending on what kind of protein also matters. If there are a lot of protein shakes, you can develop some gut issues. But that depends a lot on the person. But something else to watch is your kidneys. Alot of protein needs a lot of water to flush. You can really over work your kidneys.
Posted on 7/24/17 at 4:48 pm to BlackPot
well you skimmed alright. I specifically said they have done studies with up to that much and no harm was found to the kidneys after 8 weeks. I wasn't telling him to do that. and no you can't over work your kidneys so long as you drinking plenty of water. Read the studies and stop reading BS articles. pubmed has tons of studies on it.

No, it's essentially impossible to have too much.
So I can have 16 protein shakes a day and will have no side effects? Sweet!
