I worked at CCL in College. I loved that course, but I heard a lot of members say that Squire Creek was much better. This was like 5 years ago... Has something changed?

Is what I find between the two, I rate them neck and neck, two totally different courses, I enjoy playing both when the opportunity presents itself.

My top 5

Squire Creek

CCL
Money Hill
Baton Rouge CC
CC Golden Nugget

With Squire being a good bit ahead of CCL.

Haven't played the top three, hopefully will soon.

Contraband and Nugget are not top 10 material. Not only are they overpriced, the layouts are average at best.

I like Grey Plantation, solid holes, good condition and great value.

Carter and Tamahka are in my top 10.

LaTour may have been my favorite LA course before they went belly up.

I knew you was coming with that but people who hit it as good as you enjoy the challenge, it's miserable for us hackers

Conditions depend on how much conditioning Davidson Trucking needs to write off that month, I've played it when it was shite and when it was the best I've seen, consistent conditions belong off Highland Blvd.

Mine are

1. Squire Creek
2. BRCC
3. Oakbourne
4. CCLA
5. Money Hill
6. Bayou Desiard
7. TPC
8. NOCC
9. Le Triomphe
10. Springhill CC

Not sure how some of these are today. Last time I played bayou desiard was late 90's in the Cotton states. Always loved that course.

BRCC greens were 13' on the stimp today for the member guest. Unreal.

If they only had more property maybe, BRCC is a cool old school CC kinda like NO CC, but the course is pretty meh.

Ha, I can put up a big number anywhere!

But, I've never seen Squire in poor condition. I've played it a half dozen or so times this year and it's been great.

I really like the GN course. Good layout and good conditions. Not overly difficult unless the wind starts blowing.

And you are right, CCL's conditions are on point every day of the week. Really good design too.

You can say conditions vary at Squire, but it's never been in "shite" condition. You'll never go there and find a bad spot or anything like that. My biggest complaint there is they sometimes let the greens get too slow, but that would really be it, everything else has always been first class.

I'm sorry but I don't understand why Carter doesn't get more love. Granted I do play a lot out there because it's close to home, but I absolutely love the layout. Greens are typically in good shape. For $50ish you really can't beat the value.

I think these lists are somewhat political or just rated by players who do not have access to all the private clubs to compare them with. There is no logical reason why Lake Charles CC would not rate higher than Gray Plantation, Contraband Bayou and th Golden Nugget.

Southern Trace should be higher than The Bluffs for sure. I like East Ridge too, but I may hold it in higher regard just because of the "old school" country club atmosphere there -- it has a few quirky holes.

It has been years since I played Le Triomphe but no reason that course is not in the Top 10.

This is absolutely the case. Ed, the pro at Atchafalaya also said when they used to advertise in Golf Digest, they'd make the top 10 list. When they stopped, they stopped getting ranked.

Metairie Country Club is underrated. It a small, flat peice of property, but if you know anything about Golf Course Architecture, it's the only course in South Louisiana designed by a Golden Age architect.... Seth Raynor. The fairways are nothing special but the green complexes and bunkers are brilliant. Here's a blog post I wrote about it when I played last year:

We were blessed to have that place for a few years. I'd curse the hell out of sometimes, but it was a terrific golf course. A place like that in Florida/Vegas would get a $200 green fee.

I am sure politics has little to do with it. It is most likely marketing dollars.

Hah. It was a really fun course. I played it in the dead of winter after some rain. Would love to play again when the conditions are at their best. All those homage/template greens are really cool.
