Contraband and Golden Nugget have no business being on that list.

I really wish I had the chance to play all of these private courses. Only one I've played is Le Triomphe a few years back. Best I've played are English Turn, Carter Plantation, The Bluffs, and TPC.

I will comment on the few that I have played...

4. (3) The Bluffs On Thompson Creek, St. Francisville
Played July 2015 and it sucked. Decent layout but $87 to play that goat ranch was highway robbery. It was more of a $35 course

5. (8) Koasati Pines G.C., Kinder
My favorite course in the LC area. Plenty of creative challenging holes and lots of tee choices for players of all levels. Always in good shape.

8. (7) Gray Plantation G.C., Lake Charles
Nice course usually in pretty good shape. Good layout. Nothing special here. Not sure it deserves a top 10 spot

9. (New) Contraband Bayou G.C., Lake Charles
Great course layout. Was very well maintained when it first opened but got into "meh" condition for a while. Has really came back to great condition in the last 2 years... A little overpriced and not sure it is deserves this list.

10. (New) The C.C. At The Golden Nugget, Lake Charles
This course is still very new. I like the layout and I think they are keeping it in excellent shape. Greens are very good. It's definitely a little different with all that crazy bush grass lining the fairways. Could easily be a mainstay on this top 10 list once it matures a little more. WAY overpriced at $160/rd.

Old Waverly G.C. (6th hole pictured above), West Point ^

Have a buddy with a rental house on that course. We go a couple times a year to stay there and play 72 holes in 2 days.

Love that course and love that country club. Great breakfast.

Metairie Country Club is underrated. It a small, flat peice of property, but if you know anything about Golf Course Architecture, it's the only course in South Louisiana designed by a Golden Age architect.... Seth Raynor. The fairways are nothing special but the green complexes and bunkers are brilliant. Here's a blog post I wrote about it when I played last year:

Agree 100%. Really fun layout, not overly difficult, and often in immaculate condition.

Any hope it will reopen?

Lots of rumors. Someone made a play for it and got denied

I played it in September and thought it was a joke for how much they charged.

The Golf Blurb Metairie Country Club

Very cool write up. You are correct about MCC being underrated. I hear people talking about how it's too short of a course at 6600 from the back tees, but it's difficult to play well because you have to be so precise with your irons.

I share your sentiment about #4...it's my favorite hole out there as well. Great design.

Thank you, sir. Very nice of you to say. I really liked #10 "Cardinal" as well. It's very different from the rest of the holes on the golf course. I had 4 iron in there and hit what I consider one of the best shots of my life and made a 3.

Nice list. Grew up as a member of CCL and I'm currently a member of Oakbourne.

Playing in the peach in a couple weeks so I'm looking forward to Squire.

Squire is the best course in the state - problem is that it is in Choudrant.

CCL is a distant 2nd.

The rest are fighting for 3rd.

Tee to green, Squire is not that difficult . . . but the greens can make you feel like your an idiot and you've never held a putter before. Beautiful course and top-notch facilities, but not a course I'd want to play every weekend since you have to be defensive when putting.

Golden Nugget is punching today, they are offering $79 green fee through the 22nd.

I'll be in LC next Thurs the 22nd, you think greens are healed and worth $79?

If not you recommend Gray Plantation?
