It's so bad it's hard to watch. He's a politician, not a "scientist".

If you think that was a beat down of Nye, you are an idiot

all Tucker did was interrupt the answer Nye was giving because he was too stupid to understand it.

I thought Tucker overplayed his hand there, especially with Nye being as polite as he was being. Trust me, I' m a Tucker fanboy too. But for some reason that interview didn't work for me.

The problem is Bill Nye is not a good person to represent the scientiific community in this debate because he's not an expert. He's much more of a TV personality than he is a scientist. He did much better in his debate with Ken Ham over evolution where he seems to have a much higher comfort level with the facts behind his positions.

Damn. I used to love Bill Nye's program when I was younger.

He really looks like a fool now.

Tucker should have had Ira Flatow on with Nye and gone for the double kill shot.

So without human activity the climate "would be like it was in 1750"?

The LIA didn't end until 100 years later.

Yeah, that isn't what happened, unless you want that to be what happened.

There are facts

There are hypotheses

Honest discourse will deliberately acknowledge the difference..."we know this for a fact and base this upon...". "It is our hypothesis, based upon historical data, patterns, trends that one can anticipate..."

Folks tend to blur the lines, deliberately, and a handful of minutes doesn't really allow for thoughtful, deliberate exchange.

Do humans effect the planet, you betcha, but then again so does the rest of nature

My favorite part was when Tucker laughingly said "You're not even a scientist!"
Nye's mood changed from condescending to pissed after that.

Poliboard metric for winning an argument: Who's the loudest person in the room.

Because if they feel so strongly about it, then it must be true.

ETA: That argument was painful to watch because Tucker Carlson was being a complete a-hole to his guest.

Holy shite y'all actually think Carlson won that? Or that nye was being the conceited one? Man that's the stretch of the century.

Carlson backed off when nye started bringing up the actual effects of the earth warming and the segment ended with Carlson weaseling out. This may be the only place in the universe where either of them "beat down" the other. Carlson says he had him on because of his scientific integrity, then got pissy and said you aren't even a scientist. This is hilarious.

I like Bill Nye.

I think Bill Nye had a great show and exposed a lot of people to the scientific method and basic scientific facts and made it "fun" for kids.

However, Bill Nye has a mechanical engineering background. I am a mechanical engineer with the same background and I also went and pursued a Masters in the field.

I can say, without a doubt, I have learned nothing about climatology in any of my classes, at any of my jobs, or in any of my research. Neither has any of my colleagues.

Bill Nye is not an expert in the field and is no more qualified to speak about it than a veterinarian or computer software developer.
