We have tons of pitchers. No reason to lose games for not having someone warming at the first sign of trouble (for anyone outside of Lange and Poche and even them later in games).

Is this all on CPM or partly on Dunn?

He just doesn't get the next guy ready soon enough. We actually have a very deep/experienced pen. I get midweek and getting Guys work so it's not a melt. Just can't happen during SEC play and moving forward.

this game has no bearing and I agree no reason to freak out.

But CPM has shown throughout his career at LSU, he cannot make a pitching change in regionals, super regionals.

He cost too many imp games by over thinking.

You can set your watch to it...the "day after a baseball midweek loss meltdown"

CPM's Achilles' heel

At least the OP used the correct phraseology here. We once had a football coach named Hudson "Curley" Hallman who was quoted as saying "Our defensive backs are having a hard time...they have been our Achilles tendon all year"

I think this game was more on trying to let these guys work out of jam. It's the first midweek game of the season, they need to build some confidence or they will get lost in the bullpen. We need to get some more weekend bullpen guys ready.

Strall really shouldn't ever pitch in any somewhat close game again.

Reynolds and Kiel were horrible too but you think they can bounce back with the talent they have. What have we ever seen from Strall to show us he can pitch at this level? He has always gotten rocked.

I'm not beating up this staff over a midweek UNO game. Walker and Gilbert showed they are capable of starting games. They were not going to extend Gilbert too much his first start. UNO was starting to figure out Gilbert and had some solid hits in that fourth.

I'm certainly not melting about it. Maybe a few on the board are. There was 1 problem last night: Strall.

Kiel needed to be left in to see if he could hold it together. I wonder if he would have been given another batter if Deichmann doesn't dive for no reason and give up more runs. Reynolds is usually more reliable than that and Norman and Bain pitched well. Neither should be needed for more than an inning this year. But all of these guys are veterans besides Kiel who's still a transfer with lots of college innings.

Back to Strall. As nicely as I can put it: I don't see where he fits in at all.. anywhere. And PM definitely should not have waited 4 batters to send someone to get ready. Kid couldn't get an out to save his life. On top of that, the pitch calling didn't help at all. I get he throws "hard" for a side-armer but he should still be pitching off of the slider, not fastball.

Also, I thought they were being pretty generous last night not giving us any errors. We absolutely just flat out gave away some extra bases with bad fielding.

Coach Mainieri displays too much confidence in his guys at times. When the rally started against Kiel in his first outing as a Tiger, I have no problem with the way that move was handled. However, when Strall came in UNO already had a rally going and the lead was quickly evaporating. Instead of having the next guy lightly tossing in the bullpen "just in case", LSU didn't have any one in the pen as Strall took the mound. After three straight guys reach base Mainieri realized we have to get someone ready and in a hurry. Problem is, Strall entered the game with runners already on so everytime a batter reached base more runs were crossing the plate.

Starting a fresh inning and giving up a few base runners in a row is tough, but it is an absolute killer to enter mid inning with runners on base and allow that to happen. It's not like Strall is our top reliever out of the pen anyway. Sometimes you just ride with your guy, but not if that guy isn't one of your ace relievers.

Oh I know, I was just messing with you.

I was surprised with Reynolds. I thought he was going to shut it down. I was very happy to see what Bain and Norman did, and I expect that to be normal for them for the rest of the year.

I wonder, if since tonight is at home, we see guys like Beck, Frederick, Bush, or Reese make their debut? Hess is capped at 5 innings. Peterson will probably throw one as well. Hopefully one or two of the other guys mentioned will get a shot. Maybe not Bush if he's still recovering.

It's game 4. I feel your pain but he has to give Strall a chance in live action to see if he can depend on him. Strall will not see meaningful innings for the rest of the year.

Kiel put himself in the doghouse big time last night.

Not apologizing for Mainieri or Dunn but these are things that need to be sorted out on Tuesday's and Wednesday's in February and not in May.

Nothing says confidence like letting your guys give up 6 runs in an inning.

In his first season, he was pretty solid until the scouting reports caught up with him that nothing he throws ever ends up in the strike zone. Patient hitters stopped swinging at his junk, and he walked the shite out of everyone.
