You're right. Every coach can be subject to it in either direction if we use hindsight. Which is why I'm trying to focus on PM's known pattern of not even getting someone ready when it seems he should. I think that's a fair discussion. Sometimes a coach can't see the next hit coming, but when it does, the next pitcher should already be ready. I don't mind a coach being 1 batter too late, but he shouldn't be 2 or 3.

I'm not sure I can make it any simpler. When he went to Kiel then Strall, we have to assume that Strall was the plan B if Kiel fricked up. I'm not sure how the sequence of events is tripping you up.

I think Strall was just "next up". Period.

Ok, one more time, give us the rant about Bouman. It is probably your most justifiable position.

Which means Strall was plan b if Kiel fricked up. Just because he would have been next anyway doesn't mean he wasn't also the plan b if kiel can't get out of the inning, right?

I think you're giving the planning part too much credit. I'm not sure PM and Dunn necessarily discussed the situation where each pitcher would get in trouble and when in a midweek game in February when the only focus was who would pitch and for how long. The "if"s could be decided on the fly.

Let's just say hypothetically you were cruising. Your guy comes up in a big spot. Let's call it six innings of no run work. What do you do in the seventh?

If you know what's good for you as an LSU fan, you stop watching.

Because you said that Strall was plan B for a "freshman getting his first start." We didn't throw any freshman last night and the only newcomer we threw came in in relief.

I know. I meant a newcomer getting his first action. The context made it clear I was referring to Kiel and Strall. I in fact said it several times.

ell_13, since you say it's not that hard to figure out when to start a reliever warming up, I am curious as to your baseball back ground, specifically with collegiate pitchers. You used the phrase "obvious mistake" earlier as well. Obviously, your back ground makes it easy for you to figure out, and, too, you make no obvious mistakes with your back ground? And I was not yelling, sally, I was simply copying LSU GrandDad. And Poche did have his rough moments in his career, he'd cruise for 3-4 innings & then hit a wall. CPM & Coach Dunn started letting him pitch through it. You really don't member Poche getting rocked, walking batter after batter? Really?

I said it wasn't hard to find a happy medium between PM's choice to wait until he HAS to get someone ready and the many coaches who send someone to get warm as soon as there's trouble.

As to your Poche comparison. You're talking about a proven starter who, when he was given time to work through innings, he was a freshman/sophomore. It was a dumb example for you to use in almost every way.

I do have experience with collegiate pitching.

You do realize that the great and powerful OZ aka Skip Bertman would lose a few mid week games, up to the start of the SEC play. He would try and tweak the pitchers and dh's and fielder to have the right guys in place to start the run to CWS. From one of my favorite movie quote "lighten up Francis".
