There should be a sticky that says: "McKay. Can't. Consistently. Throw. Strikes. Without. Getting. Rocked."

The first post in that thread should be, "Who the frick pronounces that name as Mackeye?"

The thread should then be locked.

That's a stupid thing to say. He obviously should have left Gilbert (starting pitcher) in longer than he did. Last night he pulled the pitcher too early.

LSU ip h r er bb so ab bf np era
Caleb Gilbert 4.0 4 1 1 0 5 17 17 65 1.80
Hunter Kiel 0.2 3 4 4 1 1 5 6 30 -
Collin Strall 0.0 3 2 2 1 0 3 4 16 99.00
Russell Reynolds 0.2 3 4 4 1 0 5 6 34 -
Doug Norman 1.2 1 0 0 0 1 6 7 29 0.00

He's just a soph. He's the guy we should be taking a look at; not strall.

I hope this is sarcasm given the fact that Gilbert was scheduled to only go 4. Which is why he was still in line for the win.

For whatever reason, Mainieri is obsessed with having a sidewinder so Strall always gets a look. I was hoping McKay had better control this year, but if we haven't seen him, it must mean he isn't there yet. A guy that throws as hard as he does is only stashed if he can't get it in the strike zone.

I wouldn't have brought him back this year... honestly I don't know why he's on apart of the 35 man roster. But why leave a dead duck to take up a space the entire season without seeing what he can do during a midweek game in February to try and eat up an inning or two?

I wonder, if since tonight is at home, we see guys like Beck, Frederick, Bush, or Reese make their debut?

I would think that's likely

Why is he playing 2B is the more "wtf" question.

I think a sidearmer has to have way more control than him to be effective. But I also think the pitch calling is just as much a part of his problems. You can't call him like a normal guy.

I think you could have Skip calling the pitches and that dude just couldn't execute. He's the oddest sidewinder I've ever seen. He's right-handed. He throws kind of hard. None of his stuff really sweeps. He's baffling like Mike Remlinger not being able to get left-handed batters out.

All true, but his slider does drop more than what it should. And he can't throw it for a strike when he wants. A side arm guy HAS to be able to do that. But wtf are we doing calling fastballs outside to righties? He has to be hitting the inside corner to be effective with that velocity. Those balls on the outside cut back hard over the middle of the plate. Same with lefties. He has to hit the outside corner for them. A pitch inside cuts back over the middle.

I'm going to try. I just got tired of the constant bitch fest about the same old points over and over again. Finding threads like this where you can have an actual baseball discussion can be hard sometimes.

CPM has made it clear numerous times, that he & Coach Dunn sit down & game plan pitching wise for every game. Take CPM out of it since the hate for him remains so strong, but Coach Dunn has been the director of pitching for several major league teams, for well over a decade. And director of pitching for the entire minor league program. And he's been in the SEC long enough now to know what he's doing on the collegiate level. Point being, he is a professional pitching coach & has been recognized nation wide for his expertise. He's seen every pitch every pitcher at LSU has thrown since the Fall. Yet the ranters here know better. Good Lord.

You won't find a bigger fan of Dunn than me. I know he's calling the pitches and I think he does a fantastic job. Obviously, it's up the player to execute and Strall isn't. My comments about calling for Strall aren't based solely on what I see.

The season just started.
Mid-week game.
It's when you play with the line up to see what works and what doesn't work.

Chill out. It's baseball and a very long season.

Can Reid not get a look there? Templet? You know, actual infielders.
