You people honestly thought, prior to today, that the EPA for fricks sake was independent?

That the EPA just wrote and researched and published without direction or approval from anyone?

I can promise that the EPA never cut a fart without the Obama white house knowing about it and approving it.

So you're pro freedom eh? Lots of authoritarians around here

Would you have approved of Obama suppressing a report that refuted GW?

It's remarkable to see this many people really this ignorant as to how our government operates and is set up to operate.

I have a friend who is a NASA weather scientist and says EPA suppresses different ideas and opinions with money, jobs, and threats. The public only gets information from the media that matches the liberal agenda on climate change. We need transparency...

I never thought this many people were status quo about our government

I thought the entire point of Trump was that he was going to fix the system

Guess not

Well, if Obama did it, then he was wrong too. Anytime Obama does something, you all seem to think that it's acceptable for Trump now that your candidate is in control. No, I'm going to hold him to the same standard I held Obama.

And I had this crazy notion that the EPA worked for the people, not Trump. They're accountable to the taxpayers, not the God Emperor.

According to this thread, you're going to get the opposite.

That doesn't make any sense whatsoever with regard to my point or this discussion in general.

It's just curious to me that this little issue that may or may not be true gets so much passion, yet the big(and positive) things trump has done get nary a peep.

the EPA has had some epic beat downs at the Supreme Court the past 4-5 years

basically they're the biggest dicks in the federal government (which is saying something) and they have no problem completely stretching their power into pure illegality while being completely brash and cocky about it

You think that phrase means that the EPA is meant to be some kind of extra-governmental body existing outside of the framework of FedGov with no oversight, no managing supervisor . . . beholden only to

They were charged with a specific task upon creation. In a sense.. yes, they should exist (or operate) outside of the political realm. The politicians give them a goal, they create rules and regulatory frameworks to achieve compliance, and then enforce those rules and regulations.

So yeah no president necessary. I don't see Trump waving his dick at USFWS, Corps of Engineers, etc.

I wonder why that is..

I like how when Obama was president this board was clutching their pearls over him enacting martial law and taking all our guns and now that Trump is doing literal facsim it gets breathlessly defended

Well then, just look at it as their goals have been changed by this administration.

I can't believe there are really people who don't see this as an infinitely scarier proposition than a similar agency having its ultimate oversight an individual who is politically accountable to the entire nation.

Do you even know what censorship is? Do you have a boss?

I have a boss, it's me. I don't micromanage my employees either. I allow the free flow of ideas between everyone too. If I were to take every idea my employees had made sure they agreed with my version of things, we'd never go anywhere.

If the Publisher of the New York Times tells a reporter not to run a story, is that censorship?

Very well could be but a Publisher was likely a reporter at one time. Is Trump a scientist or a reporter? Sure seems he's trying to censor both.

quote:

The EPA is a regulatory agency, not a science research department. Resources are finite. They will be told what direction to go in to make the best use of their funding. If ozone depletion is thought to be a waste of money, then they will be told to quite researching and writing about ozone depletion.

Being directed is different than blanket Presidential approval or abolishment. There are some things that the free market can not regulate because the result is so sinister that it cannot be reversed and the environment is one. Do you want to breathe a sea of smog like China?

If "political staff" is not independent peer scientists,
"Peer" to what? This thread seems to presume the EPA is comprised in entirety of scientists. It isn't. Control of press releases, public action, etc. is virtually never done by scientists at the EPA.

Riddle me this . . . Do you think Flint residents wish Obama had such a mechanism in place to potentially catch managerial stupidity leading to its water crisis?
