name one other person with a remotely similar sound, let alone enough other for it to be "cliched"
yeah i'm biased, but Gilmour is one of the all-time great guitarists. and his sound is immediately recognizable as being him and him alone.
not many people can say that.

The 1st boy band...WOW! "Boy Bands" don't play multiple instruments. Even though I love The Beatles early stuff, I can see not getting into their early music when they were 22-23 years old. But, from about 1966 until they broke up in 1970 their music changed a lot. I would put Sgt Pepper, The White Album & Abbey Road up against any other artist 3 albums. Most of their best songs were not top 20 hits. I sure wouldn't call "Helter Skelter" pedestrian, just to mention one.

The Velvet Underground. I can't listen to a single song of theirs and not wonder how they got famous.

I can see that. It's some unusual stuff. My two favorites from them have Nico singing.

Led Zeppelin
I enjoy the rhythm section, but Plant's voice is like nails on a chalk board to me. I still respect the band and acknowledge their historical value in music.

As much as I don't think the Beatles are the end-all be-all of Rock and Roll, you can't cherry pick lyrics from songs and claim that the whole song sucks. Some songs hang heavily on the lyrics, sure, but others are more balanced and some have good enough music that the lyrics don't really matter.
I agree, the ob la di ob la da song makes me want to stab myself in the ears, but Come Together is a solid song whether the lyrics make any sense or not.
And yeah, the Beatles early stuff is pure dumb pop. There's a lot more to them than that though.

The first boy band.
She loves you, yeah, yeah, yeah
She loves you, yeah, yeah, yeah
She loves you, yeah, yeah, yeah
You think you've lost your love
Well, I saw her yesterday-yi-yay
It's you she's thinking of
And she told me what to say-yi-yay
She says she loves you
And you know that can't be bad
Yes, she loves you
You do realize this was released in 1964? Do you understand what pop music sounded like in 1964?
