I bought my father in law an AM/FM radio he wanted so badly so he can listen to Chris Blair while watching the game live in Death Valley. Is there a delay from watching it live to listening to it "live" on 98.1?

I believe there is a 1-2 second delay.

Shouldn't be too bad through an actual radio. I tried streaming it on my phone and it was a good 10 seconds behind at least.

Never understood the point of this.
How much information are you really missing?
All the people I've ever met who do this are nice and are big fans.

It's probably 1 second and that's new for this year. It isn't long enough to screw things ip though. I use a sports Walkman for years. You get all the injury reports and everything going on the sidelines and the locker room.

You're a good man. My daddy refused to go to several games that I wanted to take him to- he always said he liked it better on the radio. He passed away in Jan, and this football season has been shite for me.
Also, whoever down voted this man's post
(FWIW, I have no idea if there is a delay)

what frequency do they play it on? Or do you just tune to 98.1?
ETA I have an old ipod nano that can tune FM radios I may start bringing with an earbud in my ear

Yes about a 2 second delay. Wasn't like that last year. My dad has always listened to the radio in the stadium and has never had a delay like that before.
He let me listen for a little bit and at one point the radio broadcast was ending an advertisement from commercial break while a play was ending in the stadium.
We thought it might have been the radio so we checked it against the radio broadcast in the car after game and they were exactly the same.
I tweeted Chris Blair about the issue and he said they fixed the issue but the next game the delay was still there. It's got to be something he is doing. There was never a delay like that until he took over.

Well in 2007 I told everyone around me that USC lost before the score was shown on our scoreboard update. And often times I can hear injury updates OR what Chris and Doug think about a play while being reviewed. People around me often are asking me "what are they saying" including my husband!!

it's about a second or two. I have a Sangean that fits in my pocket. Tune into 98.1. I like hearing what Gordy has to say from the sidelines.

And yes to its on 98.1. I have an old zen MP3 player that I use for running and for football games. Slight delay and again this never happened until this year. My husband told me it was my imagination but you guys just proved him wrong.

I got the Walkman on amazon. I like it because I put it on my belt and it fits snug. You can get smaller ones from other companies that easily fit in a pocket.

they used to sell the "tiger ear" or something outside the stadium, basically it just gave you the radio broadcast
i loved it, would let you know what was going on in an injury, if there was a controversial call you would know what was going on

I wasn't criticizing you.
Everyone I know that brings a radio to a game are "mega fans" that I have a lot of respect for.
IMO, it takes away from being there.
I would like to hear what the announcers' opinion of a booth review, even though it wouldn't top my own opinion.

When I go in proudly wearing an earbud in one ear and a Walkman on my arm, I get a lot of cold stares. But when there's a questionable flag, review, injury, etc, I always get asked "what are they saying?"

I bought one of these several years ago. Some group said they were associated with veterans?? It was pretty cheap and worked great for 2 or 3 years. Been looking for another one ever since then.

LSU used to sell some special radio that was tied right to the raw broadcast of the game, inside the stadium. It had no delay, but I don't know if they do that any more. It was the 98.1 broadcast but didn't have the delay.
