Always enjoyed listening to the Tiger Band. But this is so coon arse that I hope others do not let the band in their stadium. You do not know what you are missing until you hear the Jacksonville State Band.
LSU went from the most welcoming place in the SEC to the place people want to avoid. All within a five year period.

I've been told from a reliable source that it's money. Not having to send 350 band members, staff, food, travel, hotels, etc. to each away game. They hope that other colleges will "catch on" and eventually others will do the same. We can all can save money. Just send a small pep band only. I also understand that it came from the athletic side.

Of course it's about the money! (See my posts on pp. 5 and 7.) But, again, we're not talking about that much in the context of the athletics budget. The difference between sending the full band or a pep band to an SEC away game is around 70 grand. (Relatively little out of a budget of well over 100 million per year.) And we're not talking about every away game (as you stated in your post), but ONE game per season. Seems like a relative bargain to have the full band at a crucial road game.

ike we sit there and wait for them to start playing. We play immediately after the play is dead, and like TGBFTL we have specific cheers for a certain play, especially on defense. If we actually waited until the other band started playing we run the risk of still playing during the next football play, which is a penalty.
actually you do wait for Tiger Band to play....and that's why I detest the Alabama band

For those who say they don't care, just remember that the next time some other game day tradition that makes college football such a special and unique experience gets taken away. Get ready for more piped-in music, more commercials bombarding you every second while the band has to sit on their hands. This is all coming from the bozos in the marketing department, who think that the sterile, generic atmosphere one finds at NFL games is the gold standard.
Beautiful post. Thank you for your service the message board.

We now have the most assholish administration in the history of this school. I strongly believe in the maxim "you reap what you sow", and those in control seemingly don't care about anything other than themselves and money, and using deception to accomplish their objectives reminds me of another administration on a much larger scale.

You're exactly right. You can tell that's their m.o. during pregame warmups. It will be nothing but commercials and stadium noise, and LSU band starts to play a song. Bama band will immediately start playing too, as though they're trying to compete at the same time. It makes the director and drum major look petty and childish.

Am Betting LSU wants to add that to the reason Tradition Fees must go up "The cost to take the Whole Tiger Band to Bama"
Posted on 6/15/16 at 8:11 am to MirrOlure
The Tiger Band had a long standing tradition of bringing the whole band to either the Auburn or Alabama game each year. This was because of the importance of these two SEC West games. Now, as reported in the Advocate, the Aleva administration (supported by F King) only sends the whole band to "neutral" sites.
SHAMEFUL.

If people want this piped-in music & terrible stadium experience crap to change, they're going to need to get very vocal very soon.
BINGO......LSU ONLY controls when the LSU band plays (someone from athletics sits with the band and tells them when they can and cannot play). They can't control the visiting band and I'm sure that pisses them off. The visiting band sometimes plays over their commercials on the jumbotron. Maybe this is also why they hate visiting bands!!

The $30 million from SECN deal says this is bullshite.

And, as I noted a few days ago (p. 7), neutral site games are like bowl games: the sponsors and/or networks pay most (if not all) of the expenses for taking the band, so Alleva can say the band gets to travel to an away game while not having to pay for them to go to a crucial SEC game.
