Not punish, just maintain the norm

1 - Why the frick should we maintain the "norm" when the majority of Americans think the system is broken for cannabis? The only people that don't understand it's harmlessness are the religious zealots that refuse to look at any science around the matter. Cannabis is safer than TYLENOL. Tylenol. Acetaminophen. Seriously.

quote:

There are tons of people who currently smoke marijuana and get drug tested, and somehow they maintain employment...

I can't even being on this, it's so fricking stupid. So people are currently willing to risk employment to use cannabis (say for something like epileptic seizures) and that's okay with you? That they're forced to make that choice? Why? What gives the government that right? What makes you so willing to let the government decide what consenting adults do?

quote:

This is also the real reason why it hasn't been done. There are some jobs that, for safety reasons, require the employee to be drug free. Mainly because deadly accidents can occur. That needs to remain in place. However the legal aspects that will arise from an accident by someone testing positive for a "legal substance" will be huge.

Right...because companies are totally cool with their employees being lit up on booze or oxy while operating that heavy machinery.

quote:

So having anyone currently drug testing to continue after "legalization" is probably the best effort at meeting half way on the matter.

I'd argue that what's best for each company is up to their discretion. The government CANNOT COMPETE for top tech talent to help in cyber defense/analyst positions because SO MANY people with those talents use pot. Our laws are making the country LESS safe because a bunch of highly intelligent people can read, know that cannabis is relatively harmless, and decide to partake. Let's maintain the norm, though.

This is the exact point I was trying to make with #1. If Bob doesn't want marijuana users at his company, he will still reserve the right to not employ/fire them on that basis. That is also what I meant by the "norm".

Idk where you got religious zealots, or any of that other bullshite.

The problem is, marijuana last in your system for month. Would you rather hire a guy who smoke weed on the occasional Saturday, or the guy drinking whiskey every night?

Again, length of tests. The concern isn't if someone has used recently that caused an accident. It's if they were under the influence during the accident. That's why they are developing a marijuana breathalyzer test, that and for driving under the influence.

You would also have to get rid of the insurance "discount" companies get by drug testing their employees.

Why? They can still test for a lot of drugs. Drugs that should remain illegal.

yeah, it would be. Because that's illegal and unconstitutional.

I used sour diesel because it's name brand. Lately, Jilly Bean and Oaktown Crippler have been my favorites. Though I like the effects of Durban Poison the most (I'm a sativa guy).

Bob currently cannot discriminate hiring someone because use of a legal activity off the clock. You cannot fire someone for drinking a beer after work. If marijuana is legalized at the federal level, they won't be to for off the clock marijuana use.

They can fire someone in Colorado for marijuana use, because it's still a federally prohibited substance.

Didn't Louisiana legalize gambling to help fund education? See how that worked out!!

I made this comparison in another thread about this subject. It seems, as of now, 13 stoners disagree with us.

"Just get us the lottery and all of our troubles will be over." Then, a few years later, "Just legalize gambling, er, 'gaming,' and our troubles will be a thing of the past."

There isn't a state in America where you can get fired for drinking alcohol off the job.
