I made this comparison in another thread about this subject. It seems, as of now, 13 stoners disagree with us. "Just get us the lottery and all of our troubles will be over." Then, a few years later, "Just legalize gambling, er, 'gaming,' and our troubles will be a thing of the past."

So youre against legalization? How fricking ignorant can you people be?

The Port of New Orleans could make a huge impact if marijuana was legalized in LA

If I'm not mistaken, law in all of the legal states mandates that all product sold in stores is grown locally, since transportation across state lines would be in violation of federal law.

Which would increase local jobs and tax revenue

Didn't Louisiana legalize gambling to help fund education? See how that worked out!!

The world didn't end, if that's your concern. But I agree. What good could ever come from giving more freedom to adults? I'm a fan of big government like you. Big daddy government must protect me from myself.

I'm not against legalization, but to say it's the panacea for all of the state's budget woes is just stupid.

how you compare legalizing marijuana to gambling is beyond me...

Right. It's no wonder Louisiana has problems with residents like that.

The point of the comparison went completely over your head. The OP did not say he was against gambling, but simply made the assumption that legalizing pot will not fix the state's financial problems. We were sold a bill of goods about how gaming was going to be the cure for what ails us, and it wasn't.

Care to elaborate how they're different?

There isn't a state in America where you can get fired for drinking alcohol off the job.

Private businesses should still have the right to dictate what their employees can do, within labor laws of course.

In my opinion.

I am pro-legalization (obvi) and had to take a damn drug test today just for changing jobs within my company.

I still think they reserve the right to do that. If I don't like their rules, I don't have to work here. I really like my job though so I sacrifice things.

Should it really take an explanation to tell you the difference between smoking pot and gambling?

They're 2 completely unrelated activities

You laugh. But I'm talking about a beer or two. What state can you get fired for drinking a single beer after work?

There are private businesses and universities that will terminate someone, of legal age, for drinking on their own time.

Those places obviously suck a big fat choad, but that is their right.

Weren't the Casinos in BR and Nola supposed to fix the entire state's education woes? 20 years later, We now have about 20 casinos and our public education still sucks donkey dicks.

I blame some of the parents.

Any at-will state that doesn't have a statute protecting such activity.

Only 12 states have such a statute.

Sure. But it would be a huge net positive.

No it didn't go over my head. There was a long exhaustive thread on this yesterday. It's completely obvious that legalizing and taxing pot might not solve the budget problems but it would put a nice dent in it. Aside from the budget issue, it's the right thing to do even if the state didn't end up making much money off it. As with casinos.
