But in the OP they asked for preferably non chain suggestions. Then you posted chains only, figured it was a dig at Cenla. If I was wrong I apologize for being a lol bitch!

I would just get a hotdog at the zoo. The zoo is about the only thing to do in that town.

Alex has nothing remotely comparable to Cotton or Nonna like Monroe.

For a town our size, we have legit options in quite a few diff cuisines. We are just a couple of more local places away from being pretty comparable to Monroe, which is recognized as having good dining for a mid size La city.

I am in ellic often. Please give me some suggestions where i can get a good glass of wine and a nice dinner (fish, steak, lamb, etc). I do not care for Diamond Grill and go to Bistro often. Many many times I am in town for the night and want a nice dinner... And those 2 are my options.

Alex gets banged on for good reason. There may be decent lunch spots.... But eating out at night leaves much to be desired....

Honestly tho, if there is somewhere I can get a rack of lamb, or a quality bone in ribeye, or a grilled snapper, or the like outside of Bistro or Diamond... Please let me know because I will b there this week and next. I like Bistro.. Really do... But find myself eating there once a week due to lack of options (or obviously lack of knowledge of options).

The Alex food scene is way ahead of where it was just 5-6 years ago, and people still post dumb shite, it aggravates me.

Name me a single place that compares to Cotton or Nonna. Please. Verona is in no way close to Nonna.

Janohns is the closet thing and its in freaking Boyce

I don't live in MS anymore. I lived in Gulfport when I joined TD. I moved back to Baton Rouge in 2010. I've never been to Old Cuevas.

I've never been to either so I don't know what they have, but Bistro and Diamond are fantastic.

Well, seeing as the two we have you say I cant tell you about, I suppose I am out. Bellinos has a decent wine list and a pretty good filet. Janohns is open on Wed and Thursday during work week.

Again, as a town of 50k, there are just not enough week night dining to support more than what we have, which is more than we used to have....Alexandria, supports a good number of folks during work hours, it does not have a large number of folks that dine out in semi fine dining fashion on an average Tuesday. But as I listed above, we are in much better off in most areas of dining. Between Red River Grill, Bistro, Janohns, and Diamond you can have a nice night out monthly.

Mikados on Monroe Hwy in Pineville is good for Japanese. I believe Robbie G's on Jackson Ext. is open for lunch if you want seafood. Oriental Wok on Bolton Ave. is good for Chinese. Brocato's on 28 West in Alexandria has a good plate lunch.

You speak as if Boyce is more than 10 miles away.

I have eaten at Nonnas about 5 times it is good. Cottons is just way too hit or miss for me to claim it as great. I am from Monroe and spend a ton of time up there, it just isn't near as awe inspiring as most rave.

I do find it odd, that I mentioned in my post that we are short a couple of local owned restaurants from comparing to Monroe, and you respond with 'well, we don't have something similar to these two locally owned restaurants in MLU"

Should we tell him about the new garnish and smaller portions with the curvy line of sauce?

well IMO Cotton and Nonna are more than just regular locally owned restaurants

if you got 2 restaurants on par with those, then yeah, but just opening up a couple more locally owned restaurants really doesn't mean anything

and I, in no way, think Alex is as bad as this board makes it, but it does lack places that make me really want to go back
