I say T. The guy got fired at Auburn and his defense got roasted that year.

Then, he gives up 645 RUSHING yards to a team running the wildcat.

He is not the answer.

Venables named as HCIW is the answer.

Chizik has a nice history as a dc before this past season. He would be a major upgrade from Steele.

I think baylor just used a 15th QB to run the wildcat and gained another 100 yds rushing.

Seriously, how could anyone want Chizik after that game?

So one game in a garbage bowl overshadows an entire career?

Two things:

1. Can't do this anymore
2. Why would we do this?

First of all I dont think there was a lot of people clamoring for chizik. Second I know they sucked in the bowl game but until then didnt he significantly improve UNC's defense over the course of the regular season? From what I understood they were TAMU and chavis except it worked out. Just need to be decent on defense and the offense didnt tank unlike TAMU

Steele did a pretty good job in his last two games at LSU. However, I don't think that suddenly removes all concern after 9 previous subpar games this year.

Similarly, I don't think you throw out an entire season of improvement from what was a very bad UNC defense the year before because of one game. Their offense wasn't consistent and made some dumb mistakes, and that left the D on the field a lot. That is a recipe for disaster against a team like Baylor.

Chizik has put championship defenses on the field and he can recruit. He would definitely be an upgrade over Steele. There may be better fits out there, but he should definitely be considered.

False. When I found out LSU hired the D coordinator for the team that set the Orange Bowl record for most points allowed (70), I felt as if it was the very moment our program had simply given up. After all of the speculation into the big names like Shoop and Pendergast, and then to have to settle for a position coach with a really shitty resume...it made me wonder what was so terrible about coming to LSU where you're almost guaranteed a top ten recruiting class annually, together with some of the biggest coaching salaries in all of college football. Say it with me: LSU paid Kevin Steele one million dollars to coach the defense. I'm not a big Chizik fan, but he would not be--on paper, anyway--a worse hire than Steele. Not really even close.

No one does HCIW anymore. Why it persists on here, I'll never know. It is a massive handicap to recruiting to designate a HCIW. Has been for almost half a decade now.

Mediocre head coach but a great defensive coordinator. Last year UNC finished near last in the country in defense and this year with basically the same roster, they've improved about 50 spots. He was the difference in them going to the ACC championship game this season and Larry Fedora should probably thank him for saving his job.

It was masterful how he waited for Sumlin to destroy his own team from within. Wish he could do that to all LSU opponents.

False. Real false. We all know the team was on Cam's back, but Chizik still did enough to let his team win a MNC happen as a Head Coach. And he's generally been a solid DC.

I'm not saying that A&M was some juggernaut by the time we got to them. However, we couldn't keep freakin EMU and Syracuse with a walk-on QB in check early in the season. We made Treon Harris look like an all SEC QB with busted assignments everywhere. I'm not a Steele fan, but he did finally make scheme adjustments and the D was better the last two games.

lol Chizik is the best DC in college football. Even with the brutal beating Baylor put on them UNC's D is improved leaps and bounds from last year

Think about how Auburn fans feel. We had to settle for that shitty DC that Miles quietly fired and pay him
