Looking to buy a .22 rifle for my sons this Christmas. Ages 7 and 9. Would like something with iron sights and under $200.
Any suggestions?

So savage is no good? I see they have peep sights, which I like. The purpose of this rifle is to teach the fundamentals of marksmanship. We don't hunt.

Ruger American Rifle, start off bolt action.

CZ Scout. It's $300 though.

You asked a question.
Nobody said anything was not good, it's very subjective, kinda like cars, 4 wheelers, etc.
I told you what I prefer and love and have had since the early 70's as a young man.
I don't know of a bad one, they're all pretty good these days.

Just get a solid wood stock gun with all metal receiver and trigger housing and your golden. Stay away from the plastic composite cheap crap they have and you'll be fine no matter the brand

Every man should have a 10-22, 870, 1911, and AR15 in his collection.

Another vote for Ruger 10/22
Bought my boys (twins) each one when they turned 10. Told them they would learn to shoot with iron sights before we even discussed scopes or red dots.

I bought TD, Jr. a Savage Rascal last year when he turned 5.
If they have not shot a lot I would think you might start them on a bigger single shot rifle and them move up to a semi auto.

I vote for this. the 10/22 is cool, but the henry will be nostalgic when your boys get older.
ETA. just saw your budget of under 200. A henry will not work for you

Went with the ruger. Looked at the Henry. It was nice but too much dollars

I got my boy a Henry & he loves it. Accurate little plinking rifle and it feels really solid. We already had a 10/22, but I wanted him to learn on something other than a semi-auto.

There's something about the Marlin 60 that I've always loved. It's easier to load than the 10/22, since it has a tube magazine, not a box mag. It's also more accurate out of the box.
The Model 60 has been around a long time and is a great little gun.
