We dominated the 2nd half. Dominated. They scored 31 points, 7 of which came in the last minute on FT's. They came out red hot and our Freshmen crumbled. Learning. But time will tell, I'm perfectly fine with everyone giving up hope on the team. It'll make t sweeter for the people like me who stay on board

They have trouble in half court offense most likely accountable to so many freshmen that play aau ball which is basically an nba all star game. It takes time for them to learn how to play real basketball. Amazingly up until tonight their defense has been fairly decent but really right now Simmons seems to be the only person willing to make the extra pass in half court offense

We run an offense that is easy to guard.
Biggest issue is Simmons plays too much on the wing which takes away his ability to score down low. He needs to be posting up and playing as our main high low player. He is more deadly as pg in transistion compared to half court offense.

Perimeter defense and the allowance of penetration is pathetic. Rebounding is about as bad as it gets. Our passing is pathetic, except for simmons and blakeney, but they are our best scorers so they need to be the ones being passed to instead of having to always make the pass.

its just too easy to game plan against us. If we dont hit 3's, anyone can beat us right now, aka Charleston.

With all that said, we will be a lot better with rebounding and leadership with hornsby and victor which will change things for us slightly. A high/low offense with victor and simmons would be work flawlessly, but i bet victor will come in and play point guard for us. (Sarcasm)

No post player. Playing 3 freshman big minutes. I'll wait and judge this team when they are at full strength.

not enough motion on offense,
this is big. And when they are moving, they are frequently staying close together, so it defeats the point of motion. JJ talks about spacing, but his plays don't seem to show him truly understanding the dynamic of spacing.

i don't think this means what you think it means. first, they're supposed to dominate a team like coc. second, they "dominated" AND STILL LOST. that is HORRIBLE. third, it doesn't make up for 3 straight losses in 6 games to mediocre at best teams.

It's all JJ's fault. He can't develop a point forward.

They struggle with a lot of the things already mentioned, but tonight was their worst passing game of the year by far starting with Simmons. They didn't guard well at all either. No concept of ball-you-man, just guys floundering around in the vicinity of their man with no clue where the ball was at

When you play in these kind of mousetrap games you have to play with emotion or you can get swallowed up quickly.

This team still has potential to be good by the spring but they'll frustrate us a lot along the way. Jones is who he is; there is enough talent for them to eventually gel. Remember 2005/2006...up-and-down start to the year, losses AT HOME to UH and northern iowa. They need a turning point game like that team had at UCONN...even tho they lost they saw that they could play with anyone if they just put it all together. Maybe OU can be that game.

What they need most right now is this year's Darrel Mitchell (Hornsby) back and healthy. Victor should make a positive impact as well.

Spacing is very important but motion especially against a zone isn't always best. When sitting back in a zone motion shouldn't have any impact on you. The key to beating a zone is moving the ball quickly, make 2 guys guard 1, and attacking the soft spots (high post, short corner). You certainly need good spacing for that but motion isn't really needed. Also if you can't shoot the ball it doesn't matter where you space to (Gray) bc your guy is just gonna stay in help anyway.

So. It sounds like a lot of peeps upset that ben not playing post. Is it possible jj doesnt want ben getting used to playing post since victor will be there? Maybe sacrificing games now so we will be better latter? Just throwing this out there trying to give jj the benefit of the doubt

Victor isnt a bruiser down low though. Solid around the rim, but not dominant.

A high low offense with both of them screening each other and the guards would frick up a 2-3 zone

We're very young and missing two key players. People cant understand that sometimes teams must fail to learn. These guys will be fine.

Well so far Simmons, Blakeney and Sampson have failed to play up to their hype. All three had awful games today. Simmons had 7 official turnovers but I think the number counting missed alley oop passes should have been 10 or 11. Neither Blakeney nor Sampson hit a single shot, 0-9 and 0-3.

We have no half court offense other than Simmons trying to drive from the perimeter and dunk or dish to another player. Other teams have scouted us and now clog up the middle so he can't do that. Even when he was able to do it, our guards were missing wide open jump shots.

IMO Simmons is going to have to stop playing like he was already in the NBA and post up in the paint so we can take advantage of his height. He can still use his passing skills even though he is not handling the rock. Quarterman or Gray would be the point guards who would feed him the ball.

There have been a lot of mediocre November teams in the final four and a lot of great November teams in the NIT. I'm not getting worked up about them yet.

Young team and poor coaching effort to get the team ready. But it is BB and I'm not too concerned at this point. Get them back home and back on track.

Yes, it was a poor coaching effort you would never see a 3 game losing streak at Kentucky or North Carolina with an all freshman team. So JJ needs to step it up!

Let's see.... in a half court set we are terible both offensively and defensively. Our press and full court Transitions are the only bright spots at this point. Our freshman, just a few short months ago, were the most dominant players on the floor in HS. Not the case anymore. We will need to settle down and Ben play his College role and not his future NBA role. Defense can't be tought a this point. These kids know how to get into position and how to use a fundamental defensive stand. They're just not doing it. As I said in a previous post I think that the back yard ball is a result of them adjusting to the level of play. At the leaked standing around and going one on one isn't going to work anymore. IF the game slows down and they can gel, they're bad mfers. I have no doubt that the plays are in and called but executing what the coach asks is another animal. Can't play monkey ball and win. If we see a bit of organization, we'll see arse whippings. Time will tell.
