Then their business will suffer. They better hope wireless internet networks (and Google Fiber doesn't pass regulatory hurdles to spread) stop progressing or they will known as companies that left a shite ton of useless wires all over thecountry.

nfortunately for us, that means that the Cable industry, with the help of Congress, will simply destroy all of their competition with regulations and throttling.
Yeah, I haven't read the rest of the thread yet, but would you care to explain this? How will the Cable industry destroy today's competition?

my parents have literally every channel that DirecTV offers and live in the middle of nowhere with no internet. So I just use their login for HBOGo, Starz Play etc. sports wise you can find a stream literally anywhere, especially with Watch ESPN and Fox Sports Go.
They might be right. When Mommy and Daddy keel over, Millennials won't be able to pirate their cable ID. Then, decisions will have to be made.

quote:It's a decent point, sure. But let's compare the before and after: I was paying $140/month for DirecTV and $75/month for internet with Cox. I completely cut out DirecTV and added HBO Now for $15. So, I'm saving $125/month.
You guys do realize that as people move from cable to Internet supplied content that the cost of the Internet content will increase right? At the end of the day you will be paying roughly the same dollars but for only the channels you want instead of those plus a bunch you don't want.
You'll get less for same price. See how Netflix keeps increasing its streaming price plus you have to pay for Internet access. Add in HBOGO and one or two others and you are easily at $80 per month.
I do realize there are kickers. My friend is nice enough to lend me his Cox login info, so I get all those perks. My GF, her sister and I share passwords for HBO Now, Hulu Plus, Netflix and Amazon Prime. So, it does take some help. But until the content providers like Netflix or Hulu start to really clamp down on password sharing, this will be the norm for a while.
The cable companies are going to be in trouble. Granted, they still have people like all our parents that are too stubborn or afraid to make the switch because they like their reliable services and have no problem paying for the convenience.

Wrong. We'll just split netflix with our friends and pay like .50 a month.
And in ten years everything will be streamed in perfect HD illegally.

Sports is the only problem. But y'all tend to shy away from that stuff anyway. It will be interesting to see what happens.

The stupid ones sure aren't abandoning reproduction.

There are communities that chip in to pay for something like NHL Gametime. Then they create an app where you can literally watch any NHL game for free in perfect HD. In 10 years, this'll be the norm

I will be curious to see what happens to cord cutting when services like HBO and ESPN start limiting the devices that each account can access, while making it a pain in the arse to remove/add devices.

I have a six year old and cut the cord before he could watch TV. We went on vacation and he was watching TV. He called me in the room and said "Dad, they keep stopping my show to talk about toys, make it stop".
I've had it with these Generation Z/Boomlet kids. They have no patience for anything these days - this country is going to crap and these lazy, inpatient kids aren't even trying to help out.

If there's a will, there's a way. People much tech smarter than I will find a way to beat the system.

Once they force everyone to accept the mark of the beast, you will have to scan the bar code on your forehead before any device will function. And it will have to interface with the chip embedded in your body. Time Warner will lead the way.

Why do you hate Millenials so much? Since you are making generalizations, I'm going to say that you sound like a cranky old man who wants us to get off your lawn.

I tried to hire a Millennial to do my lawn, but he never showed up. Kept sending me text messages wanting to be paid though. So I hired a Mexican to do it and won yard of the month.
