Really curious to see the CY votes.

Same here. In other news, another closer is off the table with the KRod trade. Curious who the office is targeting now that he and Kimbrel have been dealt.

Here are the facts: Ken Rosenthal’s report that the Braves talked about dealing Freeman was 100 percent true. Three sources told Yahoo Sports that Freeman’s name came up in conversations with the Houston Astros as part of a mega-trade that would’ve included more than five players. It went nowhere.

Yeah, the price would have been STEEP. But despite their GM making his little declaration, we'll just see if that's the last of those talks.

I don't think it would take him, but Reed, Tucker and any two of Appel/Martes/Musgrove would probably be close to the crux of it.

If we kept one of Martes/Musgrove then I would think any Astros fan would be all about that trade

At this point, we are praying for AJ Reed to pan out as a Freddie Freeman, right?

Appel is far from a lock to be a difference maker in a rotation

And we still don't really know where Tucker fits in for the future.

Obviously it's not as cut and dry as I'm making it out to be, but we have to remember how prospects are just that....prospects. If we are able to flip some for sure fire major league production then we have to

ETA: the sexy thing about a potential Freeman trade would be the years of control we would have. As much as I would love Aroldis, I hate the idea of giving up a ton for just 1 year

You make an excellent point about Chapman. The one year thing is tough even with the QO that could bring back a pick if he leaves. I like the Rays trade rumor better. Plus, what's up with Storen?

#Astros, #Marlins among teams to check in on Giles, sources say. #Phillies also could wait until July or next off-season to move him.

The Rays rumor is my favorite solution so far for the pen.

I am guessing the Freeman rumors are just tabled for now. The thing about praying Reed becomes Freeman is 100% correct which is why I'm okay with giving him up. Giving up Appel plus one of Martes or Musgrove and Tucker is where it starts to get tricky for me though I would still probably do that. Freeman would contribute a ton to this current lineup

Let's hope that Phillies management isn't as ridiculous as their media. This was from a CSN Philly article after the Kimbrel trade.

quote:

The Red Sox, in need of a closer, traded two of their top prospects to the Padres for Craig Kimbrel.

What does that mean for the Phils? It means one fewer closer is available, it means the price for a top ninth-inning man has been set, and it means the Phillies could net as much, if not more, for their unique asset.

quote:

In his two seasons with the Phillies, Giles' ERA is more than a half-run lower than Kimbrel's.

quote:

It's next to impossible that Giles' value will ever be higher than it is now. He'll never again be cheaper than he is currently, and he'll probably never be better.

quote:

So if Kimbrel is worth centerfielder Manuel Margot and shortstop Javier Guerra, two potential stars, what is Giles worth?

The answer should be at least as much. Giles is younger, significantly cheaper and arguably equal to or better than Kimbrel right now.

Umm no. Kimbrel is valuable because he's proven over multiple seasons to be an elite closer for competitive teams. Plus he's controlled for 3 more years. Giles greatest asset is being cheap and team controlled. He's not proven as an elite closer yet.

Villar traded!

The Brewers announced that they’ve acquired shortstop Jonathan Villar from the Astros in exchange for minor league right-hander Cy Sneed.

That stache. He actually had good numbers in A and high A ball last year and was a third round pick in 14

Freeing up those 40 man spots too

I thought the exact same thing when I read that article and had a nice chuckle. Giles is good, but he doesnt have the 5 years of consistent results that Kimbrel does, which is why the Padres got what they did in that deal. Kimbrel has a 90% save rate, with 225 total saves, and a 1.63 career ERA and that goes over 6 straight seasons now. Giles only has 16 total saves in his career haha Philly media dolts.
