He just gave Tyler White the chance to take his job.

That sucks. Started slow last year and that's not really ideal to start this season

Gattis out most of Spring training after hernia surgery.

More swings for Tucker.

Astros won arbitration case with Castro Tuesday. Gattis has a hearing Feb. 16

That sucks on Gattis. I'd anticipate him missing the start to the season. Out 4-6 weeks but he'll miss the bulk of spring training so he'll need some rehab time.

I don't anticipate the team wants to bring up Reed ahead of the super 2 date. This may mean Tyler White gets a good look in the Spring. Or it could mean Tucker is our DH

I think the 2nd part of your guess is more likely.

I think Reed and White start the year in AAA. Singleton is going to get a good 2 month audition at 1B and Tucker will DH. We really don't need a callup right out of the gate at 1B, since we were already going to have a hard time with finding a 25 man roster spot for Tucker/Marisnick and Plus Singleton really needs a chance to get everyday at bats.

If Singleton blows his audition, he probably goes down once Gattis comes back, and then is ultimately traded.

I think White is going to take a roster spot in spring training because the guy can flat-out hit. There's already an open spot on the 40-man roster while another is guaranteed once Straily is cut loose. There is room for White and even Reed if he dominates this spring.

The Gattis news is actually the best news Marisnick could actually hope for... it frees him up to play more instead of splitting time with Tucker/Rasmus.

I had posted this back before Christmas, things have started to take shape now and it looks like Gattis could very well miss opening day

quote:

If Singleton is on the opening day roster, which it sounds like is the plan, this is my ideal opening day lineup

C
Castro
Stassi/some RH veteran backup

1B
New 1B
Singleton

2B
Altuve

SS
Correa

3B
Valbuena

OF
Springer
Gomez
Rasmus
Marisnick

UTIL
Gonzalez

DH
Gattis

SP
Keuchel
Kazmir/New SP
McHugh
McCullers
Fiers

RP
Feldman
Harris
New LHP/promote someone
Neshek
Sipp
Gregerson
Giles

Here is what I think the 25 man will be assuming Gattis is out on opening day and no other big moves are made

C
Castro
Stassi

1B
Singleton
White

2B
Altuve

SS
Correa

3B
Valbuena

OF
Springer
Gomez
Rasmus
Marisnick
Tucker

UTIL
Gonzalez

SP
Keuchel
McHugh
McCullers
Fiers
Fister or Feldman

RP
Fister or Feldman
Fields or a promoted lefty like Chapman or a non roster invite LHP
Harris
Neshek
Sipp
Gregerson
Giles

I would prefer us to have two lefties in the pen but it will be interesting to see what we do. I see Singleton/Tucker/White shuffling a lot of ABs until Gattis comes back

Also I think Duffy could be an option instead of White but I agree I think he hits his way onto the roster.

I hope they don't shuffle a lot in the first month.

Let Singleton play everyday in April. If he shits the bed, then send him to Fresno and package him in a trade.

I think they'll be platooning Singleton and White or Duffy based on pitching matchup a good amount based on what Hinch did last year. If Singleton performs poorly again there won't be much trade value left really

Sitting here in 28 degree temps dreaming about Spring Training. Anyone going?

Unfortunately I'll be arriving in Florida the day of the last game in Kissimmee, so I will catch the Astros at Disney vs the Braves and in Clearwater vs the Phillies. Hoping to catch a Keuchel start, I suppose I have a 40% chance.

Bregman Martes Reed and Kyle Tucker in Law's top 100. Bregman is #19

Musgrove might be the most under the radar prospect we have. He and martes have huge ceilings
