I just got an ESPN alert. Some writer said Freddie Freeman could be a potential trade option for us.
I'm thinking no. That would take a massive haul for the Braves.

So Freeman would cost Reed, another top position player, and a couple top arms I would assume. That would be interesting, and I'm not as completely opposed to it as some of y'all seem to be, but at the end of the day, doesn't seem like a slam dunk idea

I'd rather give Reed a shot. I think he's going to be a good one.

Whaaaaa? Why turned off to a Freeman Trade?
I mean, sure, if the asking price means we are giving up all of our top prospects then I agree. The Braves can definitely over price him by asking for too much.
But a 26yo, above average defending 1B (which we need), elite OBP (which we need), left hander who crushes righties (which we need), under contract for 6 more years while entering his prime (yes please). This move would us a core of Springer, Altuve, Correa, Freeman, Keuchel, McCullars, Jabroni, etc for the next half decade. And bringing him in also doesn't block AJ Reed. It means it's the end of Carter & Gattis and Reed can continuing doing what he does best as a DH - mash.
Sure, Freeman's contract after 2016 rises to $20M per year, but you're not paying for it, . If the FO is willing to take it on because they believe they can fit it in, then fine. It isn't like the shitty contract to Carlos Lee who was done as a player with multiple years still remaining - Freeman will only be 32 when it's finished. Also the contract never gets to be more than $22M per year which, as contracts becomes more inflated year after year, will be a bargain in 2020 presuming he continues to be an above average player for the rest of his contract. Plus he is only making $12M this upcoming season, which means they don't have to worry about maneuvering for the additional salary until next offseason (with Carlos Gomez already scheduled to come off of the books at that time).
How anyone can say "no thanks" without first hearing what the asking price is is a very big stretch, imo.
If the asking price is Bregman, Appel and another couple of borderline top 10 prospects would you not consider that? Bregmans best positions are blocked (SS,2B) and Appel may no longer be our top pitching prospect anymore.

Wouldn't have anything to do with Reed. Would most probably mean the end of Carter & Gattis.
imo

I am 99% sure that if we acquired Freeman we would be sending Reed to Atlanta

I don't think so. We have depth at other positions the Braves need. They just traded away their SS, so Bregs would be the centering piece, imo, not Reed. They have SS Albies in their farm system, but he is only 18 and is prob 3 years away. We also have an over abundance of arms to include which they would want. I think we could get by without needing to give up Reed because they also really need left side of the IF help. Remember that Bregs is a higher rated prospect than Reed.
Edit: Tyler White would probably be included as the potential 1B fill in if a trade didn't involve Reed.
Edit 2: Bregs, White, two top pitchers (VV, Feliz, Martes, Musgrove, etc...we have depth), possibly one or two more prospects in the lower farm system that are ranked in the teens of our prospect rankings? All of this to give us probably the best offensive core in the AL for the next 5-6 years? It's a lot to give up, but it loads us up at the MLB level for the foreseeable future.

Interesting theory, if we could do that trade I think I would go for it. Would prefer to keep Martes though

78-84, last place in the east. "Hey you know what this team was missing? An elite closer."
You can always count on the Yankees, Sox and Dodgers to make a move because big names.

Seems like they were the front runners for Aroldis, will be interesting to see if rumors of him and Houston start heating up

I wanted Kimbrel. The package would be higher but he's around for 2 more seasons. Chapman is likely to test free agency after 2016 and someone will throw a ton of money at him.
Last word on Chapman was that he could be traded by the end of the weekend. Now that Kimbrel is gone the ball is in the Reds court as Chapman is the most coveted reliever on the trade market.

Bergman can not be traded yet. He is also not eligible to be a PTBNL. So he can't be considered for a trade this off season.
Freeman 100% guarantees Reed goes to Atlanta.

I thought it was just until the off season that Bregs couldn't be traded? When is that date he becomes available? If that's the case, then yeah, Reed would be included

Major League Baseball emailed all 30 teams today to announce that, effective following this year’s draft, players selected in the amateur draft will be permitted to be traded beginning the day after the conclusion of the World Series.
The change is a much-needed revamp of the previous iteration, which had prohibited clubs from trading players for one year after being drafted
