2/2 with a td pass.
Also a 8 yard scramble for a first down

would have probably been starting last season and been in position to be the starter this season if he wouldn't have transferred. Probably would have eventually been over taken by Harris but would have had the inside lane for the starting spot this season.

he looks good, i'll give him that.. but i'll be impressed if he looks this good vs. a Big 10 team, any Big 10 team...

seen enough already to know he would have been a big upgrade over what we had at QB last season. Looks like the real deal. Don't get how he wouldn't have been in the thick of it for the starting spot last season.

This. Level of competition is a big factor here. Also, 2/2 is hardly a big enough sample size to say he looks good. Let's see if he can hold onto a starting job throughout the season.

Why didn't he beat out jennings?

Too bad our coaches ran him off. Have no,idea if he would've started, but wouldn't have minded the competition.

It is just against Norfolk state but he looks good even with an awful oline. A lot more mobile than people made him out to be. Just ran for a td. I guess people stereotype by skin color.

His O'line is horrible. He has good poise, nice touch and (gasp) can move outside the pocket and extend a play.

They called it back due to holding but he slung a nice long pass on a post about 30 yds down field. His accuracy and mobility is surprisingly good given how those were supposedly his weaknesses.
However his inexperience showed and he did almost throw a pick bc he didn't see the linebacker in a zone

i don't remember people talking about him being slow or immobile... but the the speed of the game in the SEC was a little more than he could deal with, at the time....
nice kid though... really respectful and chill... hope he lights it up, but i'm not gonna say he's better than what we currently have....

Now 8/10 104 yards TD with 2 car. 17 yards and a rush TD

We never really got a chance to see. I believe he would have been third on the depth chart regardless, as Harris seems to be Cam's guy.

I think Harris is more talented. I just can't see how in the world Jennings beat him out.

What kinda grinds my gears is that he looks like the prototypical pocket qb we could've used last year

This. Watching Rettig play he looks very capable, with a strong arm and enough mobility to extend plays. Who knows what he could do with a better O line and the weapons he would have had at LSU.

1. This is Norfolk St... let's not read too much into it.
2. Rettig wasn't sitting on his couch playing Xbox during the 2014 season, either. He transferred because he wanted to be a starter, and it looks like he dedicated himself to that end.
3. Good luck to a young man who handled his departure with class and now has an opportunity to establish himself in the CFB community.

It's not like he didn't have mobility. I remember Rivers said he was leaving due to them changing the offense or something (wanting a more mobile guy), but never Rettig.
Rettig could run a bit in his highlights.
I told people last year that Harris should have redshirted and Rettig be the backup, but it seems like he just wasn't better than Harris last year (he had problems of his own moving from a shotgun spread).
I haven't watched it yet, but what are they running? Is it mostly shotgun, or under center?
