Way too close to my home for comfort. I love my little neighborhood in Sherwood Forest. Have been there for almost 6 years now and it's been super quiet and a great place to live.

The in-laws have lived in that area for about the past 10 years. It wasn't until a year or so ago that their place was broken into. They put in a security system and replaced the back door. After that someone still came into their carport (behind the house) and stole shite.

Couldn't be a more rapidly declining area of the city. Homes in Sherwood are going for under $90 a square foot. It's appalling to drive on that road these days. The stretch between Old Hammond and Florida is abysmal.

And growing up it was a geat neighborhood. Stable long term residents. Funny how time changes things.

I know someone that lives on Sherwood right near OHH. I know his house has been broken into multiple times. Crime has really escalated over there.

Made the drive on Old Hammond between Oneal and Sherwood recently. What a dump!

I wouldn't say that "funny" is really the best word.

I remember the opposition that Jay from Jay's Donuts organized against St. Jean Apartments, about 15 years ago. He said the area would go to shite, and he was right.

Anyone else find it odd someone in that area having an armed private security guard?

Yeah. There definitely appears to be more to this story than garden-variety street violence.

Sucks when I think about what is on the horizon for St. Thomas More. Good school stuck in a shitty area.

Sounds like the security guard may have just been passing by, and guy who was shot was nuts or on something:

quote:

Pate said the man who was shot had been driving erratically in a dark gray Chevy Malibu, hit a light pole, clipped another car and then crossed the median before coming to a stop on the other side.

She said the man emerged from the wrecked car and started screaming obscenities at other cars. She said a security guard in a black jeep stopped and confronted the man.

It was unclear if the security guard’s vehicle was involved in the accident.

Pate said the man slapped the security guard.

Pate and other witnesses said they couldn’t see the ensuing fight from where they were but Pate said she heard a shot. The security guard shortly after stood up and then fired a second shot when the man was getting back up and “still coming at him,” Pate said.

Officers swarmed the scene seconds later, Pate said, and used a stun gun while subduing the man who’d been shot. He was then handcuffed and loaded into an ambulance, she said.
