(Note from the OP: This thread was bumped from 8/22/15!)

...would it be erector set by necessity?

We all know that the north side is where the pregame activities take place...where the team walks into the stadium, and into their locker room. And where TGBFTL does The March Down Victory Hill.

Any expansion, however limited, would need to be finished before the season opener for Tiger Stadium.

Does this mean erector set is the only way to go, because it is hands down the fastest manner of construction? Would you be prepared to accept an erector set addition as long as it had cladding to blend it in with the rest of the stadium?

Texas A&M went with erector set for half of Kyle Field because it was the fastest method of construction available. The pieces were pre-fitted, numbered, and stacked for easy and quick assembly. The Aggies did a pretty good job of cladding the erector set save for one end zone...

Obviously, that would not be acceptable here. We are proud of the unique look of our stadium, Even if all four sides look different from each other atm.

Here's an overhead rendering of Tiger Stadium and it's surroundings...

...you'll note how close North Stadium Road is to the north side of the stadium. There could be a couple of ways expansion could occur...one would involve road work, and possibly removing or reducing the ramps on the PMAC.

Another would involve building the sides as close to the sidewalk as possible, the making the center cantilever over the existing road.

An example of cantilever construction would be the renovations at Neyland Stadium...

...but on a grander scale. I'm not sure if LSU wants to be able to continue to use that as a road, or if they eventually plan on making it a pedestrian walk way...

...but in any case, if LSU wanted to avoid using erector set construction, an alternative would be to build out the addition in stages, suing concrete pour to match the current construction. The first stage would involve lengthening the sides, then completing the center after the season. The design would depend on the decision to/refusal to do road work.

As far as the look goes, this would possibly be a big bone of contention among Tiger Fans, as many fans...myself included, love the look of the North Side as it matches the original look of Tiger Stadium.

I believe though, that any expansion would wind up looking like the south end zone addition...

..which makes sense, as we'd hope the interior would match the south end zone addition as well...

Will it ever happen? Maybe, maybe not. But I don't think the west and east sides will ever have their looks updated to blend in with the rest of the stadium unless it does happen.

Your thoughts?

There's just not enough room for an NEZ upper deck. This is the final configuration, unless they remove some bleacher seats to make room for more suites.

Not true. Whether it involves road work or cantilever construction, the room is there. Only slightly less than was available in the south.

Very possible, even probable. But this thread is for those who hope for an even, cohesive look all around the stadium. I don't think we'll ever see that unless it involves a north end zone addition.

not sure about all of that, but I hope they leave the north endzone the way it is for a long, long time...I really enjoy the view of campus, the capitol, and the bridge from the seats in the uppers....

You're no stranger to expansion threads and I know you've discussed it before but I think the next major project at Tiger Stadium is inside. The concourses need some work for sure. I think in the next several years, we'll start to see a campaign and some plans for that exact thing.

I'm bullish on ever seeing a north side expansion. Of course if the demand and dollars are there for more suites, they'll probably do it but I think that's decades off.

A north endzone expansion will never be needed.

And I would agree with that, and hope it is announced soon.

This is all completely hypothetical.

The south endzone still looks so atrocious from outside the stadium...

I'd much rather them try to get some continuity between the South Endzone and the sides of the stadium

That's kind of the point of this thread. I'm saying that won't happen without a north end zone expansion.

From the inside sure, but from the outside, not even close.

1. We will NEVER have a North End expansion at TS...never. Study done and it is not feasible to add on there.

2. TS is already too big. 102K capacity and we rarely have even 90K in ACTUAL attendance.

3. Campus is so damned overcrowded on gamedays that it is ridiculous. As university buildings are built, we'll have less and less on campus parking.

With respect, I don't buy that.

An addition could mean less bleacher seats and more chair back seating.

One of the reasons the on campus golf course was phased out, in order to provide more room.

I think it's an even bigger upgrade in looks on the outside. And I'd bet large that 99.99% of all Tiger Fans would agree with that.

I know, and that makes me have so many sad.

Understand, I'm not trying to call you out personally. Its just obscene what we've done to a once proud and fear-inducing historic structure.

I feel pretty similar about the west side expansion, though it's not quite as bad. We should simply leave the north side alone, let it bare its classic facade to the world unblemished.

And I digress...

We need butts to stay in the seats we already have before worrying about this. The stadium is half full as it is for decent SEC games.
