We keep a company condo to the west side and while it is very nice for Galveston, its still Galveston.

We will hit it up for the weekend and lay around the pool (which is recessed and hides the street views), and we do enjoy it. BUT, its a company expense and doesn't hit my pocket (i.e. free). Also helps not having garbage walking outside.

While Tillman is a brilliant businessman, this one may be a stretch but he knows more than me.....

Galveston is a shithole, but that place will make bank. I can already see someone trying to ball out for the white trash convention that is their St. Paddys day parade

Exactly, it's Galveston, but there is so much dumb money in Houston it'll do great.

The question wasn't whether the place would survive or thrive. I was whether you would go there. I would not unless for business and paid by someone else.

With prices starting at just under $1,000 and reaching about $2,600 per night, that traveller is going to need deep pockets.

Considering the most expensive hotel in Galveston is $160/night right now, why would someone pay 10x that for fancy decoration and a public pool right outside their door?

I was in Galveston a couple weeks ago for a wedding. Why my friend decided to get married there I have no idea.

In any event, I was reminded once again how terrible that place is, but you have to remember that it's a place for not well off people from Texas to go to. At least, that's what it looked like.

For many of the guests, it was their first time and "last time" there. I told them I had said the same thing but look at me now, my 4th time.

Every time I feel like I'm out, it pulls me back in somehow.

Eta: I did enjoy one of my friends get threatened by GPD for public intoxication INSIDE some country bar we ended up at after the wedding.

B/c it's mainly for certain selected guest. That open price is to keep the typical Galveston riff raff from staying there unless they really want to pony up some money.

True. Like when a casino raises the table minimums for the weekend so the locals wont be there playing with their paycheck.
I'm talking more about the fact that the pool is literally right out the back door. Nothing says $1,000/night like some kids screaming at the pool at 8am outside your door. You'd have more privacy at a Super 8.

It's a private pool with only 5 villas with one bed each villa. You'd have to rent another room for kids. That may happen but on rare occasions. It's a totally different clientele. This is for the Houston couple that want to be picked up by limo and given spa treatments at their rooms, wined & dined a driven everywhere. fly them to Golden Nugget by Helicopter etc. The bride & groom of a wedding party. This isn't for Jeff & Stephanie with their 3 kids of 5, 7, & 11 crashing the place with inflatable toys and sand shovels.

The hotel's public pool is up the drive.

I like how the photos ensure that no Galveston is actually shown
