It's not arbitrary. It was proven through the Ironman Sports Medicine Institute that a pitcher is who he is for the year after 60 innings. It was proven through thorough research, testing, and statistical information.
It's science.

Cardianls should of made moves the past 2 years for bench help, especially a guy with pop.
they have come into playoffs not hitting and nothing on the bench to give a spark. They got lucky the pitching kept Dodgers off the board.
Reynolds gives them that now, but they need another bat, possibly some one to play 1b. Adams is not the future.

It's not a need though, as a world series favorite with best record all year there is no reason to trade away top prospects, team is title ready as constructed. No need to wager more of the future when you're set as is.

do you know what arbitrary means? Or do you now just understand the rule?
for him to qualify for an ERA title, he'll have to pitch in at least 162 innings.
for him, right now, to qualify for the league leaders in ERA, he has to have thrown 96 IP.
technically, those are the facts.
There is no logical reason as to why the number of innings has to equal the number of games other than that someone decided it would be a simple way to have a cut-off point.

There is increasing action on Marlins relieverSteve Cishek, as MLB.com’s Joe Frisaro and Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald report that there are multiple clubs involved — some with more apparent interest than the previously-reported Cardinals.

because that is the qualifier mandated by the MLB to win the ERA title.

It's not a need though
Pitching has really been the greatest asset to the Cardinals this season. Cardinals get on base but they rank 18th in slugging, 18th in runs scored, 8th in hits, 25th in home runs, 17th in RBI. So they have a need for an offensive producer.

Exactly. That's in the rule book.

And even though the MLB came up with the rule, that doesn't mean the rule isn't arbitrary.

Good god yes.

Right, a cheap bench bat, you said major trade/blockbuster. Acquiring an Adam Lind or Cishek is whatever, the norm.

who gets the boot from the 25 man today to activate Kazmir?
Candidates…
Hoes
Singleton (not likely)
Sipp (would have to be DFA)
Fields (would have to be DFA)
Qualls (would have to be DFA)

talking about league leaders in ERA is the same thing. He doesn't qualify yet. Not that he hasn't been good. HE just doesn't qualify.

OF and pitching are the big names this deadline.
Biggest players that can play 1B are Lind, Chisenall, Morse....

Exactly. Not a need, other than a bullpen arm and platoon 1B like Lind.

I would like this.

If the Cardinals didnt trust Grichuk in CF he wouldn't be there. Had to get your cheap shot in there...

Piscotty I believe... more of an OF, but they were trying him out at 1B.

Piscotty is more of a RF, and Reynolds was brought in for Bench pop, not to be a starter. He's being exposed.
They need to quit bullshitting and stop the Adams stuff(he's still the starter going forward). 1b is a serious need, they need an every day 1b.

A guy i'd like to see them look at, is Stephen Vogt. Can play C, can play 1b,etc. he's 28, but would give them a ton of options.
He's having a good year, but Oakland might be interested in dealing.
