Id ask for 30k cash and drive your truck until you finished residency

meh, I had the same options presented to me when I graduated public high school with a 3,0 Gpa.

Went with the Olds Intrigue (it was 1998)

I just got a Fiat 500 for my 130 mile commute to work and back 4 days a week. I'm surprisingly really enjoying it so far. For 15k after rebates, I can't complain.

Granted, most people aren't going to want something so small, but I'm 6' and have no complaints about the size. I also don't have to get into the backseat.
The Abarth is especially fun to drive and sounds like porn to your ears(starts at 22k).

Again, most sane people wouldn't purchase, but I'm getting over 40mpg highway and all Chrysler/Fiat vehicles have a true lifetime warranty option(everything mechanical/electrical outside the tires, belts and clutch is covered for as long as you own the car with no mileage limitations)which I needed with the mileage abuse I put to my vehicles.

That's a waste of money. Buy used with 30-50k miles on it and you'll get a better value and car. New cars are the biggest waste of money people just blindly accept.

I generally agree, but these days with all the electrical and computer controlled components incorporated into cars, the warranty becomes more an more valuable.

How much does that extended warranty cost?

Kia Optima Or Kia Sportage are great choices. Also 2014 Kia Cadenza is left in my inventory I could let go close to that price.

The dealer told me he'd discount it to me for 2950. I lol'ed as I knew I saw it online for around 1900. I haven't actually got it yet(I just got the car 2 weeks ago), but I'm assuming that's the best price I'll get it for. That price might not be worth it to some, but with the mileage I drive and in general Fiat/Chrysler reliability, I assumed it would be worth it for me.

hat year? I was very worried about maintenance costs when I was considering the car and dealer said (granted it was the dealer) unless you do everything they recommend each time (which you don't have to, just like any other vehicle) I was assured maintenance costs were not nearly that high. Former co-worker had the same car circa 2012 and confirmed the maintenance costs were relatively reasonable.

I have a 2013. Yeah you don't have to do the maintenance if you don't won't to but if you don't, it will void the warranty. If it is an automatic tdi call your dealer and ask for a quote on the 40k service. You won't believe your ears with what they come back with

I would recommend certified Optima or Sportage (gives you ton of warranty coverage) to put you vehicle that will last and put other $ in your pocket. But thats my opinion. GL

The fully loaded Mazda 6's are pretty sweet. I got the entry level model cause I'm cheap, and I really like it. The top level packages are pretty legit.

Void the warranty??? I'm not questioning you, but since when does not doing regular maintenance void a warranty. I've never heard something like that before. Is VW the only manufacturer that has this policy? I never did all the recommended maintenance on my 2 Hondas and never had a warranty issue.

For mine they have a 10 year 120k mile warranty on the turbo drive and to not void that warranty you have to have proof of scheduled maintenance

Hijack- need a place to live while in bed school? My parents have a house to rent that's 5 minutes from the med school.

ETA- /hijack

ETA2: I'd go with a Camry to keep for the long term. $30K will get you a full size truck, just not with many options. My dad has a 2014 Camry and it's pretty nice. Very sporty, very peppy engine.
