Best vehicle under 30K

My pops is buying me a vehicle for college graduation/going to med school and has set the price at 30K. I know there are tons of great options at this price point, just want to make sure I research well before making a decision.
Right now I'm leaning towards a Camry or Accord but am open to other options. Wouldn't mind a mid-sized SUV if the looks weren't too soccer mom.

In that price range, I'd pick a leather Altima.

Loaded Mazda 6.
Great car.

Do you need an SUV or is a sedan sufficient?
An Accord is an excellent choice, but can't go wrong with the Camry as well.
SUV is going to get worse gas mileage, and have less options at that price point.

Definitely don't need an SUV. Considering SUV because I drive a crew cab truck now and have become accustomed to having tons a storage space.
Mostly will be driving to and from school everyday which is only about a 10 mile drive in Shreveport. Gas mileage is a huge plus for me.

Everyone will hate this, but I have the 2015 Optima SX. I love it. 274 hp, good mpgs,100,000 mile warranty. Can be had for right under 30,000.

You mean the GLA 250 SUV?
This would be my choice but my parents and wife are all against it because of high maintenance costs.
EDIT: Just looked up the CLA 250. Sweet looking ride. Would be worried about size though.

May have to go used to get an Avalon for 30k, but it beats the hell out of the similar model choices.
Between Accord and Camry, consider road noise. I've owned two Accords, and my biggest complaint is noise. The Avalon is quiet and smooth. Have not had a Camry, but I suspect Toyota has them similarly quiet.
I have two Avalons now, both bought used, and they are the best cars I've ever owned. Kind of an old man car, but they are great rides.

I was originally looking at used Avalons and Lexus models because I could get a little better car for a better price, but dad said he would rather me get a brand new car. I'm sure that has to do with him wanting to buy me my first brand new car. Idk his reasoning.
