I hate fireworks. Never got the appeal.

Now definitely hate them as people shoot them off in the church parking lot behind my house as I try to get my tired, cranky 2 year old to go to sleep.

I agree, but my 3 year old loves them. So....I'm here at a public event to watch fireworks.

Fireworks were invented a thousand years ago when other entertainment options were the rare play or public beheading. We now have the Internet, movies, TV shows, sporting events, video games, and countless other forms of entertainment. Why would anyone choose to travel to gather in one place to watch colorful flashes of light?

I've never been against them until recently. I grew up in the country. Everyone would pop them, but it wasnt all on top of you. You were hundreds of yards from the next house. Now I'm in a Houston suburb where houses are on top of each other. 9 month old is asleep currently, but neighbors have mortar shells launching 15' away from our house. And it's "illegal" in our area, so that's even more annoying.

They are kind of like circuses (sort of seen one seen them all) but they are only 1 time a year so they are okay. I also can see 7 shows from the levee behind my house, which I find cool. Half of those are barely over the trees but still cool.

What's everyone's opinion on when is it too late to be shooting fireworks in a neighborhood?
