It's sad, but in Lafayette it's "le" and "la". Everyone calls the golf community in Broussard "La Triomphe" but it's really Le Triomphe, and these people are supposedly very proud of their French heritage

for my friends out west they have trouble with just about any name in Louisiana.

All the french influence in South Louisiana and then there is the pronounciation of Jeanerette.

I dont even pronounce my name or city over the phone to non-locals. I go straight to spelling it and have to say "v as in victor o i s as in sam, now you pronounce it".
