Even though I was raised in Metairie, I didn't know that street name didn't rhyme with what can be found in Mariah Carey's toilet (Mariah Pee) until about three weeks ago.

It's dumb to list and complain about all these street names. A street name is no different from a city name, just pronounce it like the people that live there do.
I mean, if anyone honestly grew up in Louisiana with English as your first language, and you walk around saying Orleans, Baton Rouge, or Lafayette with a true French pronunciation, you're pretty much the worst.
If you've got a problem with people saying "bur-GUN-dee", then you're a hypocrite if you don't pronounce Orleans as "ohr-lay-ah", but if you're not French and you do say "ohr-lay-ah", you're probably an a-hole.

Why is this being mentioned? It's not French. And, if it is necessary to mention, why not also bring up all of the other streets named after Muses that are mispronounced?
Kind of what we were doing. Page 1/2 had a "speaking of streets" post.

Who said there's a correct way? I'm just giving an answer. No need to be a dick.

Speaking of streets (New Orleans). I have a question....
Iberville
Is it "Eye-ber-vill" or "eh-ber-vill"? Heard it pronounced both ways (by New Orleans natives) for many years.

My last name.

I believe the streets in New Orleans are mis-pronounced on purpose. Something about when the city decided to pick an official language, and people purposely started this in order to pick at the french. More researched required...
