Because he played three years in the SEC, Weathersby is very familiar with LSU shortstop Alex Bregman, who Astros took with the No. 2 overall selection.

"I got asked earlier this year by some guy, 'You know you've faced a lot of people, but who's the best hitter you faced in your college career?'" Weathersby said. "I said Alex Bregman. It will be cool getting to play with him because I've seen the talent and the completeness he's had to have success ever since he's been at LSU."

I'd have that guy drug tested if I ran the Astros. An argument could be made that Bregman is the best hitter on LSU's team, but it would not be an easy argument. He damn sure is not the best in the SEC.

Pure batting average doesn't tell the story buddy.

I was driving back from Memphis a month or so ago and caught an interview Scott Weathersby was doing with a local radio show. Came across as an articulate and reasoned kid. For a college age player he provided a great interview. Bregman may well be the best hitter he's faced. From a pitcher's perspective evaluating hitters is probably more than just the end result of an at bat.

I am sure your analysis is more complete than a MLB pitcher. Thanks for clearing things up

Yeah, no shite. He's still not the best hitter in the SEC. Let me ask you this, who is the better defensive shortstop Dansby or Bregman?

You think maybe he's prejudiced by the fact that they're teammates now? Since we're being sarcastic, I'm sure that MLB pitcher's (memo: he's not in the major leagues) opinion is more complete than the major league team that took Dansby Swanson AHEAD of Bregman! Dansby Swanson, who no one in the world, other than his dad, thinks is as good a fielder as Bregman. Why would they pick him ahead of Bregman? Hmmm, let's see, wow, this is a tough one...idiots!

Correct, I-59! Now, why did Swanson get picked ahead of Bregman? What else is there besides defense?

The MLB Draft is about projectability. Swanson is a more natural athlete than Bregs, and he vaulted past everyone because of a great SEC Tournament.

I upvoted - mainly because you got the "you're" right. Bregman still is not the best hitter in the SEC, and anyone who thinks he is is an idiot or a homer.

Drug testing an employee because you disagree with that person's more than reasonable opinion? You're just what this country needs. Eat a bullet.

Power is part of hitting. And Swanson's got the real thing, not just potential. He is better at the plate than Bregman. I think Chinea probably is too, but I can certainly respect an argument to the contrary. Not so regarding Swanson.

I suppose that if the question was asked another way, such as "who is the batter you've faced that you fear to make a pitching mistake against" Bregman is a more obvious answer (to some). That's a good hitter from a pitchers perspective.

in terms of big league caliber he doesn't have it yet. Neither of them do. BUT he has more potential to have it than Bregman does.

Bregman also has the potential to be a better overall hitter because he's much better in terms of zone recognition and things like in/out of zone swing miss percentage. Bregman has an extremely advanced approach. Right now, he's a better hitter. Swanson has more potential long term to be an elite hitter but since you're discussing right now, you're wrong.
